Promotion of the European dimensions in the higher education • “There is a general agreement on the fact that one of the fundametal elements, in order to reach the Eurpoean dimension, is the implmenatation of Joint Programmes, preferably leading to Joint degrees. Joint programmes give a great addes value to higher education with refernce to the University mission to form the human capital and the European citiziens.”

The aim of internationalization • The influence of the globalization and internationalization proces at universities • the standpoint of an institution, where all activities are focused on educational and research activities on international levels • the standpoint of teaching staff, management and students, where all activities are focused on enabling every person to work optimally in both, national, and international environment.

Europe • economic integration between the EU members as well as other European countries which are not EU members • coordination and harmonization, as well as information exchange in all segments of higher education in Europe • programs and initiatives with the aim of improving «understanding» and creating conditions for international cooperation • LLL program, Tempus, FP, WUS, Cooperation programs with South-East Europe

  10. The current state of the University of Tuzla • There is no organized mobility of the teaching staff and students • Tempus, WUS, FP – on institutional level • Individual scholarship - Heinrich Boell, DAAD, IMG Tempus • Joint programs with international curricula do not exist

The importance of process of internationalization at the University of Tuzla • education and research activities • Participation in the international projects (Tempus, WUS, FP,...) • cooperation agreements with universities from abroad (over 25 agreements) • member of the European University Association and International University Association, Dubrovnik, Jadran-Jonium Initiative.

Arguments in favor of the process of internationalization at the University of Tuzla • Internationalization of the teaching processes and research • Student and teachin mobility – quality of studying • International experience gained at universities abroad – competition on international labor market • researches are carried out at the international level • A university is obliged to prepare students for international career

Student and teaching staff mobility • Adopted procedure for student mobility at the University of Tuzla • Horizontal mobility • Vertical mobility • There is no mobility between B&H universities • It’s a lack of statistical data for student mobility in the B&H • Spontaneus mobility – mobility out of international programmes • Organised mobility – ECTS Tempus project – first mobility in the B&H

The following actions should be realized: • creating university networks with universities/partners from abroad • increasing the number of foreign students at the University of Tuzla, organizing student mobility with universities abroad • organizing teaching staff mobility with universities abroad • offering courses to foreign students and teachers in Summer Schools • developing joint programs/curriculum with partner universities from abroad • participating in international research projects with partner institutions from abroad • organizing mobility of researchers at an international level • offering postgraduate studies which would be attractive not only to B&H students but also to foreign students • developing internationally accepted quality assurance system

How to improve the current state • Realize activities promoting teaching staff and student mobility in accordance with the adopted procedures • Define number of students which will participate in the mobility, and the number of students which will spend some time at the University of Tuzla • Approve budget needed for the student and teaching staff mobility, which would require financial support from the Tuzla Canton • Organize studies so that administrative obstacles for foreign students would be removed and enable implementation of the national and international funds for student mobility

  16. Influence B&H Ministries of education to generate funds for student mobility at the state level (in accordance with the Law on higher education) following the examples of the EU countries • Influence the state structures to enable B&H students access to EU funds for teaching staff and student mobility • Organize postgraduate studies in English • Organize summer schools in English and offer courses of interest to foreign students and teachers • Provide curricula in English (published on the University’s website) • Harmonize academic calendar
