  2. Birth of Sir Francis Drake • Sir Francis Drake was born in 1545. • He was born in the small town of Tavistock. • Tavistock is in the country of Devon, England, which is on the Southeast corner of England.

  3. About Sir Francis Drake • Sir Francis Drake was a Vice Admiral in the English Navy. • He was second in command of the English fleet during the Spanish Armada. • He was also a privateer, navigator, slaver and politician. • He was awarded a knighthood from Elizabeth I of England.

  4. Sir Francis Drake’s Voyage Around the World • Sir Francis Drake was the second man to circumnavigate the world. • He set sail with four ships and one-hundred and forty-six men. • It took Drake three years to successfully circumnavigate the world.

  5. The Death of Sir Francis Drake • Sir Francis Drake died on January 28, 1596. • He died of Dysentery, which is an internal problem that causes severe sickness. • The crew members buried him at sea.
