  2. Fact File • Name:Sir Francis Drake. • Born:1540 in Devon • Voyages:SOUTH-AMERICA, NORTH AMERICA AND HE ALSO SAILED PAST THE ANTARTIC. • Died:56 years old

  3. Ships and Crew • Drake’s ship was named the Golden Hind. Drake was the first English man to sail a boat around the world and his first boat was called the Golden Hind. • There would be about 35 to 40 people on board at a time.

  4. Supplies They would take wood, coal, candles, wax, lanterns, platters, tankards, leather, dishes, bowls, buckets, scoops, taper candles, shovels, compasses, lamps, water casks, hoops of iron.

  5. Jobs on board • Cleaning the deck. • Check the captain is happy. • Climbing the rigging. • Looking out for ships with a telescope up the crow’s nest. • Cleaning the cabins.

  6. The Golden Hind • Drake set off to Southern Mexico. With lots of booty, he had twenty-six tons of silver in 1579. He was sailing on the leaking Golden Hind. They landed in America and stayed for five weeks to repair the Golden Hind. Drake arrived triumphantly in England in 1580, after three years on his voyage.

  8. Explore the New World When they arrived at a ‘New World’ they would dig for treasure. They would then name the new land after the King or Queen.

  9. Treasure They found gold, silver, coins and money and jewels. Upon returning to England, Drake presented Queen Elizabeth I with gold, silver and jewels taken from Spanish treasure ships.

  10. Discoveries Lands,worlds and countries are discovered. Also late in 1577, Sir Francis Drake Left England with five ships to make new voyages and discoveries.

  11. Map of voyage • They thought that if they went to the end of the map, they would fall off and monsters would eat them.

  12. Conclusion • He was important because he found out that the would wasn't flat. • He was a famous person for his voyages. • And he was important because he was the first English man to sail the world.
