Week 4 warm -ups. Monday 8/26/13 Rule #3: Phrases. A phrase is a group of words that does NOT have a subject and a verb. (Remember a CLAUSE has a subject and a verb.) Example: Because of the rain (There is no verb, so it is a phrase.). Adjective Phrases.

  2. Monday 8/26/13 Rule #3: Phrases A phrase is a group of words that does NOT have a subject and a verb. (Remember a CLAUSE has a subject and a verb.) Example: Because of the rain (There is no verb, so it is a phrase.)

  3. Adjective Phrases • Prepositional phrases that act as adjectives and modify nouns or pronouns. • Ex. The car (with the blue top) is my father’s. Tells which car • Ex. The man (in the blue suit) was handsome. Tells which man

  4. The Adverb Phrase • Prepositional phrases that act as adverbs modify verbs, adjectives, and other adverbs. They tell how, when, where, to what extent, and to what degree. • Examples: (At dawn), we drove (across the state line). Tells when and where

  8. Friday 8/30/13 Journal You will write about the following topic NON-STOP for 8 minutes. Describe the perfect day. Where would you go? What would you do? Who would be with you? Has this perfect day happened before? Describe the day from beginning (when you wake up in the morning) to end (when you go to bed at night). Sleeping all day doesn’t count!
