  2. Two reasons why we should know God: 1.To be “KNOWN" by God will someday be all that matters - (Hebrews 9:27). 2.To know God is the primary PURPOSE" and privilege of this life and the next - (John 17:3) 1 Tim. 2:5 For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus GOD HOLY MAN SINFUL

  3. Eternal life begins with a PersonalRelationship with God through Jesus Christ -1 John 5:11-13

  4. WHAT IS A PERSONAL RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD? I. IT IS A "SPIRITUAL" RELATIONSHIP - Definition of a spiritual relationship: A spiritual relationship is a relationship that focuses on spiritual things using the word of God as it main source of information. It is a relationship that is control by the Holy Spirit.

  5. Aspiritual relationship is characterized by two things: 1. A desire for “Godliness” -(1 Tim. 4:8; 2 Pet.1:6). 2. A desire for “Christlikeness” -(Phil. 4:13-14). 'Godliness is the sacred impression and workmanship of God in a man, whereby from being carnal he is made spiritual.'

  6. THERE ARE SIX CHARACTERISTICES OF A GODLY PERSON: 1. A Godly person will be Prayerful - Luke 18:1b “ . . . men always ought to pray and not lose heart. James 5:16b “ . . . The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.

  7. 2. A Godly person will be Trustful Phil. 3:3 For we are the circumcision, which worship God in the spirit, and rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have NOCONFIDENCE in the flesh. A Godly person does NOT trust their flesh. You cannot TRUST in God and the FLESH!

  8. 3. A Godly person will be Joyful - Phil. 4:4 Rejoice (celebrate, sparkle, delight) in the Lord always: and again I say, Rejoice. Psalms 32:11 Be glad in the LORD, and rejoice, (be excited) you righteous: and shout for joy, all you that are upright in heart.

  9. 4. A Godly person will be Praiseful - PS. 7:17 I will praise the LORD according to His righteousness, And will sing praise to the name of the LORD Most High. Ps. 100:4 Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, And into His courts with praise. Be thankful to Him, and bless His name.

  10. 5. A Godly person will be Humble - Matthew 18:4 Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven. James 4:10 Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.

  11. 6. A Godly person will be Hopeful - Titus 2:11-14 For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men,12 teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age, 13 looking for the blessed HOPE and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ,14 who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from every lawless deed and purify for Himself His own special people, zealous for good works.

  12. Aspiritual relationship is characterized by two things: 1. A desire for “Godliness” -(1 Tim. 4:8; 2 Pet.1:6). 2. A desire for “Christlikeness” -(Phil. 4:13-14). We are told, that a cabbage worm becomes like the color of the leaf upon which it feeds. Its color in this way indicates the character of the food it eats.

  13. APPLICATION If we want to be Christ-Centered we must feed on Him. Our moral character will always manifest the color of our mental food.

  14. Matthew 4:4 Jesus answered and said, "It is written, ‘Man shall not LIVE by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’ If we want to have a Christlikeness that people can see, we must FEED on His Word. There is no room for CARNALITY in a Christlikeness relationship.

  15. IT WE ARE TO BE CHRISTLIKE WE NEED TO CULTIVATE THE FOLLOWING: HOLINESS 1 Pet. 1:16 OBEDIENCE John 14:15 HUMITALY Matt. 11:29 PATIENCE Isa. 53:7 COMPASSION Matt. 9:36 LOVINGNESS Gal.5:22 GENTILENESS Ga. 5:22e FORGIVING Luke 23:34 MEEKNESS Zech. 9:9 MERCYFULLNESS Heb. 2:17 LONG-SUFFERING 1 Tim 1:16

  16. Aspiritual relationship is characterized by two things: • A desire for “Godliness” -(1 Tim. 4:8; 2 Pet.1:6). 2. A desire for “Christlikeness” -(Phil. 4:13-14).

  17. APPLICATION 1. Do we have a spiritual relationship with God or is it just a MAKEBELIEVE one? 2. Have I ever EUALUATED (measure, examine) my relationship with God? 3. Is my relationship with God WEAK and MMATURE? 4. Have I CULTIVATED in my life Godliness? 5. Have I cultivated a CHRISTLIKE character?
