  3. How Can You Avoid Being a Bully? • Be tolerant of others • Tolerance is the ability to overlook differences and accept people for who they are • Respect Yourself 6th Grade

  4. How Can You Prevent Bullying? Speak UP: • If you see someone being bullied, tell a trusted adult. • Be assertive, not aggressive • Avoid BULLIES • ASK for Help 6th Grade

  5. Turn to a partner and discuss • What does bullying look like? • What does bullying sound like? 6th Grade

  6. What could bullying look like? • Taking/”borrowing” someone’s stuff • Pushing someone • Getting up in someone’s face • Putting your hands on someone who is not your friend • What does bullying sound like? • Pointing out someone’s weaknesses • Name calling • Making noises when someone walks by • Spreading rumors 6th Grade

  9. Peer Pressure Peer Pressure is feeling that you should do something because others want you to. There are two types of peer pressure. Direct Peer Pressure and Indirect Peer Pressure. 6th Grade

  10. Direct Peer Pressure The pressure that results from someone who tries to convince you to do something you normally wouldn’t do. 6th Grade

  11. Indirect Peer Pressure The pressure that results from being swayed to do something because people you look up to are doing it. 6th Grade

  12. Refusal Skills Life skills that provide different ways you can say “NO” to something you do not want to do. 6th Grade

  13. Using Refusal Skills • Give an excuse- “Sorry, I have homework”. • Say “NO” and walk away. • Blame it on your parents- “Man, my parents would take my phone away forever if I did that.” 6th Grade
