Research Questions What tools and best practices will assist stakeholders to better understand and negotiate equitable and responsible approaches to IP issues in cultural heritage theory, policy, and practice? • How are concepts of IP being used to lay claim to the past and what concerns arise? • • What forms of legal and/or customary protections apply to cultural knowledge and heritage resources? • What legal and ethical principles are derived from cultural heritage practices relating to IP, and how might they be reconciled with current decision-making regarding IP matters? • • Is there common ground between conceptions of IP, and, if so, how can we build policy & practice frameworks thereon? • Under what circumstances do problems tend to arise and how might they be avoided? • • What are the key elements of successful, equitable resolutions of IP issues?

Outline Of Contents • Context: people, territory, philosophy or theories informing research (as relevant e.g. treaty jurisdictions) • Research Context: objectives, methodology, progress & participants, engaging youth and elders, voice (CBI 2010); relationship to IPinCH Goals, challenges • Concept of cultural heritage (intangible heritage, intellectual property)Focus of study (e.g. petroglyph teachings) • Organization & presentation of information according to themes arising from analysis of CB data • Community Outcomes • Conclusions & reflection on application to relevant broader IPinCH themes & questions (handout) • Bibliography (if appropriate: e.g. used literature, documents, etc.)
