  4. Our Class Mission Statement Together, the students of Miss Wontor’s class will show respect to everyone and keep the peace. We will set great examples by being prepared and helping others pursue their dreams. We will always try our best and show leadership. Our class will use the keys of knowledge to open new doors in our learning and take pride in our work. We will remember to be positive and have fun!

  7. Homework Weekly • Spelling—Choose one activity from Category 1 & one from Category 2 (ALL words) • Assigned Thursday, due Tuesday • Reading—Text and Questions • Assigned Thursday, due Tuesday Nightly • Reading—20+ minutes • Math—as assigned • Social Studies/Science—as assigned

Homework Expectations Planner signed everynight—even Fridays (developing good habits ) Homework should be neat & complete Homework should be completed independently, but assistance is encouraged once initial attempt has been made Should not take longer than 45 minutes (excluding projects and studying) Missing/incomplete work must be made up on student’s time

  9. Grading • Four grading periods per school year • Grading scale: • 90-100 = A • 80-89 = B • 70-79 = C • 60-69 = D • 59 and lower = F • View published grades on Parent Portal

  10. Tracking Data • All students have their own data passports • Track individual progress on assessments and goals • Students take ownership and pride in their progress and learning • Class Data Wall • Track class progress toward goals

  11. Differentiation Every child is unique and has a different learning style I believe in meeting each child’s learning needs by guiding them toward individual growth

Math • Math Investigations • FOSNOT Units—such as The Box Factory • Scott Foresman/Addison Wesley • Curriculum Units include: • Operations and Algebraic Thinking • Number and Operations in Base Ten • Number and Operations – Fractions • Measurement and Data • Geometry • Mathematical Practices • Differentiated instruction to support range of learners (intervention  extension/enrichment)

  14. Language Arts • Each Harcourt story includes: • Comprehension skills and strategies • Vocabulary words • Grammar (daily language practice) • Spelling List Weekly

  15. Writing • Writing skills are taught within the Harcourt program • Six Traits of Writing • Organization, Voice, Conventions, Ideas, Word Choice, Sentence Fluency • Fifth grade writing genres • Narratives, Opinion Pieces, Informative, and Explanatory writing

  19. Celebrations Please do not send birthday invitations to school Special treats or snacks for birthdays or other occasions are not allowed for the class other than during a classroom party

  20. Volunteers Thank you for signing up to help! I will contact you once we are settled, but most volunteering will be on an “as needed” basis Classroom supplies requested through the Wontor Weekly newsletter The PTO is always looking for volunteers
