  1. FY 2005 • Awarded 45 stewardship contracts and agreements, treating 35,000 acres • Reduced 29,000 acres of WUI fuels • Treated 2,700 acres of noxious weeds treated • Improved 20 miles of trail

  2. Currently Stewardship Projects • Range in size from 7 to 150,000 acres • Accomplish a wide variety of resource work – including reducing hazardous fuels, improving fish passage, enhancing endangered species habitat, and stemming erosion. • 228 projects are underway in every region of the Forest Service

  3. Where are we going? • In response to feedback from the stewardship contracting pilots, we have: • provided guidance on the basic principles and practices of collaboration • clarified implementation of stewardship contracts, including: bonding requirements, wage rates, composition of contract administration teams, law enforcement coordination, and appropriate uses of residual receipts

  4. Revised Handbook • Eliminates bid guarantee, down payments, and scheduled payments in stewardship contracts. • Eliminates the requirement of performance bonds in stewardship contracts, except where required by law or regulation. • Only requires escalation in IRTC and IRSC contracts of three years or more.

  5. Where are we going? • We will: • offer stewardship contract preparation and stewardship contract administration training to field level contracting, resource managers, and private contractor personnel • establish demonstration agreements, revise handbook direction, and create training specific to stewardship agreements
