  9. Information Technology (IT) Integration Experience • The ITeach Laptop Learning program at Nipissing University emphasizes the concept of ‘integration’ of CT into all subject areas. Students will be encouraged to make a concerted effort to find opportunities to mesh CT into their teaching to support student learning and success. There will be three components in this integration experience:

  10. Part 1: I.T. Inventory • During your October Practicum (practice teaching placement), an inventory will be taken to profile the IT materials available to support the students and teachers. A visual ‘tour’ of the school, combined with discussions with the associate teacher and other school personnel (e.g., site manager, principal, vice-principal, computer teacher) will provide the inventory information. • This information will be entered into an on-line database at: http://www.nipissingu.ca/iteach Due Date: End of October Practicum (Monday, October 24th, 2005)

Part 2: IT Integration Activity Lesson Plan During your November Practicum (practice teaching placement), students will be asked to complete a lesson that involves some degree (component) of ICT. Using the information from the IT Inventory (e.g., what is available) and the anticipated teaching opportunity (e.g., dialogue with associate teacher), a ‘plan’ will be compiled to allow computer technology to be part of the teaching experience.

  13. E-mail Lesson Plan • Submit to Professor Waller • kenw@nipissingu.ca • Due date: Friday November 18th, 2005 • week 1 of the November Practicum • Implement during either week 2 or 3 • Nov. 21 to Dec. 2, 2005. • Gather exemplars and evidence of your activity

Reflection (PEER-C) • P- preparation (lesson planning) • E- execution (carry out lesson / activity) • E- evaluation (measure the results) • R- reflect on the W5s + H • Revisions add excellence to lessons • C- celebrate (do something different with your students as a culminating activity; Preferred Activity Time)

  15. Part 3: IT Integration Reflection • Take time to think about WHAT HAPPENDED. Some guiding questions may include: • Were lesson expectations met? • What aspects of the lesson were positive? Negative? • Were performances measurable? • What were the bottlenecks (barriers) to excellence? • What could be tweaked or modified next time? • Look at the results of your Integration Activity Lesson from your November Practicum. Reflect on the above guiding questions to get you started on valuing your experience. An on-line form (similar to the one used during the IT Inventory task) will be accessed to allow you to enter your feedback. • Due Date: Sunday, December 18th, 2005

  16. On-Line Quizzes • Included on the course resource CD are several readings profiling the many educational aspects (considerations) of computer technology. It is important to have a ‘balanced’ outlook on ICT and it’s role in education. ICT should not be viewed as a panacea to cure all the challenges in the world of education. Rather, a more pragmatic perspective would embrace the optimism that ICT can be a supportive tool to provide more effective learning experiences for everyone (i.e., students, teachers, parents).

  17. In order to assess the comprehension of the readings, a series of on-line quizzes will be completed by the Educational Computers students. This internet site hosting these quizzes will be www.quizlab.com • Included with your course CD is a unique password for your account access • Questions will also address software covered during the classes

Students will be using both TeacherWeb.com and Macromedia Dreamweaver to construct a basic website that could be used during practice teaching activities and for employment seeking purposes. • Start to gather some foundation material (information) to profile on your website • e.g., practice teaching placement school info, associate teacher info, subject areas taught, homework activities

  21. Class #2 “Sneak PEEK” • Building a pre-service teacher website using TeacherWeb.com service • bring your resume (word format) • Bring a few pictures (digital format) • Resource CD distributed • Introduction to INTEGRATION concept • Assigned readings will be identified from the course resource CD. • Dry run with the on-line quiz site
