  2. ITU SG 12, 2007: Most Widely Used QoE Definition “Overall acceptability of an application or service as perceived subjectively by the end-user … … includes the complete end-to-end system effects … … may be influenced by user expectations and context.” [ITU-T SG 12, 2007] versus Context, User, System … OK Acceptability = binary concept … Not OK Role of Content?

  3. QoE: Definition for WG1 “Web and Cloud App” “Degree of delight or annoyance caused by the experience of an application or service as perceived subjectivelyby a given user (segment) … includes the complete end-to-end system effects … may be influenced by userstate, content and context.” [based on ITU-T SG 12 2007 and Dagstuhl 2009] versus  Content = relevant for Web & Multimedia QoE. But where to put it?

  4. Summary • “QoE is the degree of delight or annoyance of a user (segment) of an application or service as perceived subjectively. In the context of communication services, it is influenced by content, network, device, application, user expectations and goals, and context of use.” • To be discussed • importance of content, and treatment as a) high-level concept (see prev. slide), b) part of system, or c) part of context • time dynamics of human perception for QoE; as well as QoE evolution over time (e.g. consider GPRS users with mobile users today) • Web QoE and Cloud QoE go beyond communication services • specific network, infrastructure, platform and service-level issues • artifacts introduced due to (increase of) the network; (distance) between the user and the service; geographical distribution of the user–base; … • having multiple parties involved in providing the service where before there were one or two; resource management problems due to colocation; … • Do we need to define QoE for different application domains? Different definitions for Web QoE and Cloud QoE? WG1 Applications
