Fossils • A Fossilis the preserved remains of animals or plants from an earlier era in rock or other geological deposit, often in a petrified state. • There are a variety of fossils there are Mold and Cast fossils, Petrification fossils, Whole Body fossils,Footprints and Track ways, Coprolites.
Mold and Cast fossils are the impressions of a body or plant left in rock forming around in which becomes a mold. Sometimes when space is left sediment will fill in the space and then becomes a cast. This is where most dinosaur bones fall into. • Petrification Fossils occurs when water enters the cells of an organism and the minerals take the place of the dissolving body. An example is petrified wood. • When bodies of animals or insects are found whole that is Whole Body fossil. When a mosquito is found incased in amber or a mammoth incased in ice.
There is also another type of fossil that are Footprints and Track ways. Its when prehistoric animals walk through the mud and then harden over time making fossils. • Finally there is the Coprolites which are fossilized feces. They can offer clues about where the animal lived and what they ate.
