  5. McDonald’s • How do you think that McDonald’s is able to have so many restaurants and serve so many people? • They keep their food cheap • They pay minimum wages • They destroy the smaller fast food and diner’s (aka Gunners)

Imperialism Definition • Imperialism: policy of extending the rule or authority of an empire over foreign countries, or of acquiring and holding colonies and dependencies. • In other words – countries going into another one and taking over • Just as McDonalds has taken over the fast food industry!

  8. How does this effect WWI? • Imperialism is one of the direct causes of the war. • In 1900, many of the European countries (Britain, France, Germany, and Holland) were trying to build their empire.

  9. Britain’s Empire • Britain had the largest empire in the world. • They had Canada as a colony • They had Australia as a colony • They had India as a colony • And they were taking over many countries in Africa.......

  10. France • France had colonies in...... • The Caribbean • In Asia • And in Africa.

  11. Germany • Germany got started a little late gaining land... • They had taken over countries in Africa.

  12. The scramble for land.... • As each of these countries achieved land they wanted more and more. • They felt that they had to have more then each other. • Without this they felt vulnerable to attack.
