What is IGGY? • a new organisation aimed at the brightest and most creative young people from around the world • provision and opportunities designed for the top 5% of young people in terms of ability and potential • offers members access to an increasingly diverse range of projects, challenges, and learning opportunities that are engaging and stimulating • provides genuine opportunities for international engagement and collaboration • provides opportunities for individual endeavour, international teamwork and collaboration, competition • expertise and input from leading professional, academic and creatives go.warwick.ac.uk/iggy

The IGGY Offer • IGGY Online • A dynamic and engaging collaborative online learning space, including features such as forums, blogs, podcasts and live media. • IGGY will provide a growing archive of material created by and for the IGGY community. • IGGY members will be encouraged to be creators and collaborators of knowledge rather than simply receivers of it. • Face-to-Face Learning • IGGY will facilitate face-to-face learning and development opportunities through international partners (including universities and employers). • The first face-to-face programme will be the IGGY Summer U go.warwick.ac.uk/iggy

  6. IGGY Summer U 2008 What is the IGGY Summer U? IGGY Summer U 2008 is the first in a series of exciting face-to-face learning opportunities Two week residential course held at the University of Warwick, England, IGGY Summer U will provide participants with an exciting, collaborative and challenging international learning opportunity When will it be held? It will take place over two weeks from 27 July - 9 August 2008. IGGY Summer U 2008 will be followed by a Winter U, likely to be held in a different country. Summer 2009 will see an expansion of IGGY Summer U activity.

  7. IGGY Summer U 2008 Who will attend IGGY Summer U? Around 100 of the brightest and most creative young people drawn from around the globe will come together to take part in IGGY Summer U. Applications are open to anyone who will aged 11-16 Junior Mentors 17 / 18 year olds are not eligible to attend IGGY Summer U as students, but can apply to become IGGY Summer U Junior Mentors. Junior Mentors will work with course leaders on specific courses to ensure younger students receive the support they need. Language Courses will be taught in English. Applicants are required to have a sufficient proficiency in English Language to participate fully in the academic and social aspects of the Summer U.

  8. What will happen at IGGY Summer U 2008? At Summer U, students will join a highly motivated learning and social community. They will explore subjects in depth with access to high quality teaching and equipment. Their abilities will be challenged in a mixture of workshops, lectures, field trips and group work. • Academic Work • Students will experience a style and pitch of learning that will be challenging and demanding • collaborative projects • intellectually challenging • introduces students to concepts and approaches used by university undergraduates • creates tangible outputs and achievements • participants will receive a certificate and a report on what they have achieved

  9. Courses There are four courses available at the IGGY Summer U 2008. Students can apply for up to two courses, and will study one intensively for the two week duration. More details, including criteria for each of the courses, is available on the IGGY website • The four courses are: • Creative Writing and Comparative Culture • The World of Mathematics: Solving Global Issues through Mathematics • Medical Sciences • Enterprise: Global Young Entrepreneurs

How Important is IGGY to Warwick? • IGGY is a key project within the University Strategy • Tangible internationalisation • Brand affinity with the next generation of the brightest and most creative • Opportunities to expand links to • business • other universities • other external stakeholders • Student recruitment • International Widening Participation • Research opportunities • Reputational benefits and media benefits go.warwick.ac.uk/iggy

Funding • Securing income and support for IGGY is critical at this early stage: • initial University investment will be limited • membership fees will not apply for some time yet, so one source of eventual income does not yet exist • when fees are introduced they will need to be kept low – money from other sources will allow the community to grow and remain diverse • IGGY will develop organically and the rate of expansion will be determined by income go.warwick.ac.uk/iggy

Funding • Investment from partners can: • be used for bursaries for the socially or economically disadvantaged (cash or IT) • sponsor of online or face-to-face activities (e.g. projects, future Summer U’s etc) • be targeted to specific regions, socio-economic groups or age ranges • who will be in our corporate club • Pre-University Scholarships

Partner Support • Think Big: • Global Mobility Fund – encouraging all IGGY members to have at least one learning experience in a different country • “Scarman House” for Children - bringing academics and young people together on an ongoing basis • International Learning Centre – live learning laboratory across different disciplines
