What are the Deadlines? • Monday, May 6, 2013 (119th day – 21 days left) Last day for House committees to report House bills and House joint resolutions • Tuesday, May 7, 2013 (120th day – 20 days left) Deadline for House to distribute last House Daily Calendar with House bills and joint resolutions • Wednesday, May 8, 2013 (121st day – 19 days left) Deadline for House to distribute last House Local and Consent Calendar with consent House bills • Thursday, May 9, 2013 (122nd day – 18 days left) Last day for House to consider House bills and joint resolutions on second reading on Daily or Supplemental Calendar

The State Budget: Big Picture • Senate Version: $195.5 billion • Emphasis on Health & Human Services - $2 billion over base bill. • Public Education - $1.5 billion over base bill. • House Version: $193.8 billion • Emphasis on Public Education - $2.5 billion over base bill (plus $500 million in supplemental appropriations bill). • Health & Human Services - $875 million

  12. The State Budget: Higher Education The Senate appropriated more than $600 million more for higher education in its final version of SB 1 than the House. The Senate emphasized significant increases in formula funding for institutions (more than $570 million) and added money to student financial aid in the form of the Texas Grants program. The House increased higher education formula funding 3%; yield is significantly less than the Senate increase. The House also provided considerable increases in research funding for emerging research institutions. For community college instructional funding the difference in increases was significant: the Senate added $147 million to SB1, while the House added $48.5 million.
