  1. Exodus 34:21-26 “Six days you shall labor, but on the seventh day you shall rest; even during the plowing season and harvest you must rest. “Celebrate the Feast of Weeks with the firstfruits of the wheat harvest, and the Feast of Ingathering at the turn of the year. Three times a year all your men are to appear before the Sovereign LORD, the God of Israel. I will drive out nations before you and enlarge your territory, and no one will covet your land when you go up three times each year to appear before the LORD your God. 26 “Bring the best of the firstfruits of your soil to the house of the LORD your God.

  2. Leviticus 23:15-18 (NIV) Feast of Weeks • 15 ”‘From the day after the Sabbath, the day you brought the sheaf of the wave offering, count off seven full weeks. 16 Count off fifty days up to the day after the seventh Sabbath, and then present an offering of new grain to the LORD. • From wherever you live, bring two loaves made of two-tenths of an ephah of fine flour, baked with yeast,as a wave offering of firstfruits to the LORD. • 18 Present with this bread seven male lambs, each a year old and without defect, one young bull and two rams. • They will be a burnt offering to the LORD, together with their grain offerings and drink offerings—an offering made by fire, an aroma pleasing to the LORD.

  3. Themes of Pentecost or Feast of Weeks • There is no specific date given for Pentecost, but rather we count from Passover! • Celebrate God giving the Ten Commandments and the Birth of IsraelIsrael would look back to their bondage in Egypt and to God’s miracles that led to their freedom. They would be reminded to appreciate God’s mighty hand and obey the Ten Commandments and the Torah. • Celebrate God giving the Holy Spirit and Birth of the ChurchThe Church would look back to the death and resurrection of Messiah at Passover. The birth of the Church and the gift of the giving of the Holy Spirit would be seen as a gift of salvation and a continuation of God’s revelation given first to Israel.

  4. Understanding the Law and the Spirit

  5. Should the Church celebrate God giving Israel the Ten Commandments? Has the Ten Commandments been replaced by the Holy Spirit? Can we celebrate Feast of Weeks – Pentecost as Birth of the Church without celebrating the Feast of Passover? Has Satan or God removed the Feasts from Church life? What is the repercussions on the Church and Israel for removing them from Church life? Do we see any comparisons from God and prayer being removed from our schools and the Ten Commandments from public buildings?

  6. The Ten Commandments Exodus 20:1-17    And God spoke all these words: “You shall have no other gods beforeme. “You shall not make for yourself an idol or image of God. “You shall not misuse the name of the LORD your God. “Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. “Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the LORD your God is giving you. “You shall not murder. “You shall not commit adultery. “You shall not steal. “You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor. “You shall not covet

  7. The Ten Commandments • Deuteronomy 4:4-8 • What other nation is so great as to have their gods near them the way the LORD our God is near us whenever we pray to him? 8 And what other nation is so great as to have such righteous decrees and laws as this body of laws I am setting before you today? • Isaiah 51:3-4 • The LORD will surely comfort Zion and will look with compassion on all her ruins; he will make her deserts like Eden, her wastelands like the garden of the LORD. Joy and gladness will be found in her, thanksgiving and the sound of singing. “Listen to me, my people; hear me, my nation: The law will go out from me; my justice will become a light to the nations. • Romans 7:5-7 • But now, by dying to what once bound us, we have been released from the law so that we serve in the new way of the Spirit, and not in the old way of the written code.

  8. Understanding the Law and the Spirit Parable of how parents teach children when they are young and when they are young adults. Commandments leading to relationship!

  9. Parable of three students. Which one is us? The one who is good but is easily influenced to follow peer pressure to do wrong. The one who does right in front of the teacher but is different behind the scenes. The one who does right most of the time and stands up to those who influence others to do wrong. When they do wrong they repent and take their punishment.

  10. The Wave Offering of Two Loaves: • The two Ingatherings of the Spiritual Harvest. • In addition, represents Jew and Gentile. The Church would be comprised of both Jews and Gentile Believers who would become one in the Spirit. • It would contain yeast are still in sin. Passover we ate bread without yeast to symbolize Christ as the perfect Lamb of God who took the sins of the world upon himself. • God as provider and Jesus as the Bread of Life. John 6:48-52 I am the bread of life. 49 Your forefathers ate the manna in the desert, yet they died. 50 But here is the bread that comes down from heaven, which a man may eat and not die.

  11. The concept of FirstFruits. • Israel God’s first Son of Nations • Israel as FirstFruits of God’s people. • Jesus was resurrected on FirstFruits from Passover. • Now the Church would become the FirstFruits of the Harvest of Souls. • First and Best Fruits as how we sacrifice to God Genesis 4:3: Now Abel kept flocks, and Cain worked the soil. 3 In the course of time Cain brought some of the fruits of the soil as an offering to the LORD. 4 But Abel brought fat portions from some of the firstborn of his flock. The LORD looked with favor on Abel and his offering, 5 but on Cain and his offering he did not look with favor.

  12. The concept of God’s Presence. • God traveled with Israel in a cloud of fire. • The Gift of the Holy Spirit • The Law as Spirit • The Concept of Redemption of the Garden of Eden Life with God • By giving Moses, Israel, the Ten Commandments God redeems that only he can teach right and wrong. Adam and Eve wanted to be like God and knowing Good and Evil for themselves. God promises Abraham to teach Abraham’s seed his way of righteousness. • Jesus promises the comforter to the Apostles and Disciples. The Holy Spirit would redeem us eternally for God by placing himself within us for eternity.

  13. Traditional Jewish or Rabbinic Point of View “The period from Passover to Shavu'ot is a time of great anticipation. We count each of the days from the second day of Passover to the day before Shavu'ot, 49 days or 7 full weeks, hence the name of the festival. The Counting of the Omer. The counting reminds us of the important connection between Passover and Shavu'ot: Passover freed us physically from bondage, but the giving of the Torah on Shavu'ot redeemed us spiritually from our bondage to idolatry and immorality.” http://www.jewfaq.org/holidayc.htm Did the Torah free the Israelites from Bondage to sin?

  14. Exodus 33:12-16 (NIV) Moses and the Glory of the Lord 12 Moses said to the LORD, “You have been telling me, ‘Lead these people,’ but you have not let me know whom you will send with me. You have said, ‘I know you by name and you have found favor with me.’ 13 If you are pleased with me, teach me your ways so I may know you and continue to find favor with you. Remember that this nation is your people.” 14 The LORD replied, “My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.” 15 Then Moses said to him, “If your Presence does not go with us, do not send us up from here. 16 How will anyone know that you are pleased with me and with your people unless you go with us? What else will distinguish me and your people from all the other people on the face of the earth?”

  15. 2 Corinthians 6:14-17 Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. What does a believer have in common with an unbeliever? ….What agreement is there between the temple of God and idols? For we are the temple of the living God. As God has said: “I will live with them and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they will be my people.”

  16. Acts 1:3-5 After his suffering, he showed himself to these men and gave many convincing proofs that he was alive. He appeared to them over a period of forty days and spoke about the kingdom of God. 4 On one occasion, while he was eating with them, he gave them this command: “Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about. 5 For John baptized with a water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.” This time of waiting on the Holy Spirit is a parallel to the time of the Exodus when God brought the Israelites to his Holy Mountain to receive the Torah. God will always empower his people for the work he has for them.

  17. Acts 1:5-8 (NIV) • But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

  18. Acts 2:1-4 • The Holy Spirit Comes at Pentecost • When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. • Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. 3 • They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. • All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them. Exodus 24:17 To the Israelites the glory of the LORD looked like a consuming fire on top of the mountain

  19. Acts 2:5-13 Now there were staying in Jerusalem God-fearing Jews from every nation under heaven. When they heard this sound, a crowd came together in bewilderment, because each one heard them speaking in his own language. Utterly amazed, they asked: “Are not all these men who are speaking Galileans? Then how is it that each of us hears them in his own native language? 9 Parthians, Medes and Elamites; residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya near Cyrene; visitors from Rome (both Jews and converts to Judaism); Cretans and Arabs— we hear them declaring the wonders of God in our own tongues!” Amazed and perplexed, they asked one another, “What does this mean?”Some, however, made fun of them and said, “They have had too much wine.”

  20. Genesis 11:9-10 • 9 That is why it was called Babel c—because there the LORD confused the language of the whole world. From there the LORD scattered them over the face of the whole earth. • c That is, Babylon; Babel sounds like the Hebrew for confused. • God would unite the Kingdom through the Holy Spirit. • The confusion of Babel would be ended.

  21. Ephesians 3:5-6 which was not made known to men in other generations as it has now been revealed by the Spirit to God’s holy apostles and prophets. This mystery is that through the gospel the Gentiles are heirs together with Israel, members together of one body, and sharers together in the promise in Christ Jesus. Christianity is the continuing revelation of Biblical Judaism through faith in the Jewish Messiah for both Jews and Gentiles.

  22. Matthew 28:18 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. • The primary functions of the Church from its Birth at Pentecost: • Is to Harvest Souls through the power of the Holy Spirit for the Kingdom of God. • The Church is called to guide people from all nations, first from • Israel and then from all others nations into the Kingdom of God • through Faith in Jesus, the Jewish Messiah. • To disciple Believers into a growing relationship with the Father, Son and Spirit.

  23. Moses and now Peter becomes mighty and bold of tongue for God. Acts 2:14-18 Then Peter stood up with the Eleven, raised his voice and addressed the crowd: “Fellow Jews and all of you who live in Jerusalem, let me explain this to you; listen carefully to what I say. These men are not drunk, as you suppose. It’s only nine in the morning! No, this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel: “‘In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams. Even on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days, and they will prophesy. (The resurrection did not fulfill all the Feasts of the Lord. They are still being fulfilled today… and in our future.) Now each Born Again Believer is Moses.. is Peter!

  24. Acts 2:36-41 “Therefore let all Israel be assured of this: God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ.” Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. Those who accepted his message were baptized, and about three thousand were added to their number that day.

  25. Forgiveness is now possible and lives are changed! Acts 7:59-8:3 While they were stoning him, Stephen prayed, “Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.” Then he fell on his knees and cried out, “Lord, do not hold this sin against them.” When he had said this, he fell asleep. And Saul was there, giving approval to his death. On that day a great persecution broke out against the church at Jerusalem, and all except the apostles were scattered throughout Judea and Samaria. 2 Godly men buried Stephen and mourned deeply for him. But Saul began to destroy the church. Going from house to house, he dragged off men and women and put them in prison. (At this time the Church was primarily Believing Israel.)

  26. Acts 9:3-6 As he neared Damascus on his journey, suddenly a light from heaven flashed around him. He fell to the ground and heard a voice say to him, “Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?” “Who are you, Lord?” Saul asked. “I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting,” he replied. “Now get up and go into the city, and you will be told what you must do.”

  27. Acts 9:17-21 Then Ananias went to the house and entered it. Placing his hands on Saul, he said, “Brother Saul, the Lord—Jesus, who appeared to you on the road as you were coming here—has sent me so that you may see again and be filled with the Holy Spirit.”Immediately, something like scales fell from Saul’s eyes, and he could see again. He got up and was baptized, and after taking some food, he regained his strength. Saul spent several days with the disciples in Damascus. At once he began to preach in the synagogues that Jesus is the Son of God. All those who heard him were astonished and asked, “Isn’t he the man who raised havoc in Jerusalem among those who call on this name? The Holy Sprit will change people’s lives!

  28. Acts 10:27-38 Then Peter began to speak: “I now realize how true it is that God does not show favoritism but accepts men from every nation who fear him and do what is right. Acts 15:5-6 Then some of the believers who belonged to the party of the Pharisees stood up and said, “The Gentiles must be circumcised and required to obey the law of Moses.” The apostles and elders met to consider this question. … Acts 15:11 No! We believe it is through the grace of our Lord Jesus that we are saved, just as they are.” ….

  29. Romans 11:13-17 I am talking to you Gentiles. Inasmuch as I am the apostle to the Gentiles, I make much of my ministry in the hope that I may somehow arouse my own people to envy and save some of them. 1 Corinthians 12:12-13 The body is a unit, though it is made up of many parts; and though all its parts are many, they form one body. So it is with Christ. 13 For we were all baptized by one Spirit into one body—whether Jews or Greeks, slave or free—and we were all given the one Spirit to drink.

  30. Ephesians 2:11-18 Therefore, remember that formerly you who are Gentiles by birth ….remember that at that time you were separate from Christ, excluded from citizenship in Israel and foreigners to the covenants of the promise, without hope and without God in the world. But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far away have been brought near through the blood of Christ. ..His purpose was to create in himself one new man out of the two, thus making peace, and in this one body to reconcile both of them to God through the cross, by which he put to death their hostility. …For through him we both have access to the Father by one Spirit. (Have we seen the Hostility end between Jews and the Gentiles, between Jews and the Church. No. All has not been fulfilled.)

  31. Matthew 9:35-38 Jesus went through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and sickness. When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.”
