  6. Upcoming Regulations & Standards – TCCA perspective • TCCA involved in activities leading up to FAA NPRM 10-10, including ARAC  EHWG & IPHWG. • TCCA provided comments to NPRM 10-10: • FAA Final Rule expected to address: • Part 33, Appendix D – TCCA to review for AWM 533 •   Part 25, Appendix O – TCCA to review for AWM 525 6 6 6

  7. Upcoming Regulations & Standards – TCCA perspective • AC 20-147A: Plan to use as guidance / AMC • TCCA comments provided Oct. 2011 • Harmonization activities with EASA • NPA 2011-03 (re: CS-25) • TCCA comments provided June 2011 • NPA 2011-04 (re: CS-E) • No comments from TCCA 7 7 7

  8. Current Activities and Involvement • Engines / Propulsion: • High Ice Water Content (HIWC) program – partner • EIWG sub-committee on Engine Ground Icing Threat at Cold Temperatures • Inspected GLACIER facility (Mar. 2011) • Not currently part of EG-1E (TBD) • Aircraft-Level: • Membership on AC-9C • TCCA are looking at ice crystal icing condition qualification of air data probes for airframe and engine on CSeries and future aeroplane models 8 8 8

  9. Current Activities and Involvement • Common – Propulsion & Aircraft: • High Ice Water Content (HIWC) program – R&D funding partner • Participation in Europeans HAIC project currently under discussion • Involvement with National Research Council (NRC) of Canada – currently providing funding under Ice Crystal Icing Instrumentation Development R&D Project • R&D funding support to NRC for Engine Icing activities currently under development 9 9 9

  10. Future Interests • Support of NRC R&D efforts : • Investigation of compressor wall features influence on ice crystal accretion • Extension of NRC flat-plate experiments to investigate the effects of water film thickness, ice layer growth, ice crystal splash and bounce characteristics • Development of compressor design characteristics to minimize ice crystal accretion • Low-cost, practical instrumentation to detect & measure ice crystals entering engine core 10 10 10

  11. Future Interests • Regulatory challenges: • Role of validated analysis (currently test only) • Adaptability of regulations/guidance to selected engine applications (e.g. turboshaft engines) – current plan • per Pt 33 • Incorporation of data from HIWC flight campaign – Darwin – into regulations 11 11 11
