  1. Unseen Passage for Class 7 in English Unseen passage for class 7 covers the significant bit of the English paper. It contains around 25% imprints weightage in the test. Along these lines, students who need to score good grades in Class 7 English should rehearse the understanding entry preceding the test. To help them in their planning, we have given the CBSE Unseen Passages to Class 7 English.Students should go through them and tackle the inquiries dependent on these appreciation sections. 1. Read the following passage and answer the questions that follow: 1.“What a very peculiar name!” Sir William Jones pondered the name of the ship that had carried him for five months from England to India. He and his wife Anna Maria were now travelling up Hugli, on their way to Calcutta. 2. India was so new to them-her skies, seas, birds and animals were so alien, “Oh! Look, there’s a tiger, come down to drink water from the river!” Anna Maria had pointed out with awe and delight. She was excited as her husband decided to move to this new country. For Sir William Jones, this journey satisfied a deep-seated longing, for he had an obsession with this land. India- her literature, beauty and history had attracted him for years. 3. Indeed the whole of Asia, and many were the hours he had spent, reading every book he could lay his hands on. Yet, to his starved mind, there seemed to be so little material. He began to prepare a document, setting out everything he wished to study.

  2. 4. “The history of the ancient world, traditions, modern politics and geography of Hindustan,” he added, ‘’Indians, agriculture, medicine, wild life, natural products of India……” the list went on. The opponents waited for the signal to begin. “Let go!” called out the judge. The Knights and the Challengers rushed towards each other and met in the middle

A second party of knights fought with the Challengers but they were also easily defeated. There followed a long pause. The viewers grew impatient waiting for other knights to come forward. The whispers of disappointment grew. “We’ve come so far to see so little,” complained the people. “Young men are not so brave as they used to be,” grumbled the old knights. 2. Suddenly, a trumpet sounded and a young knight came forward mounted on a black horse. Everyone wondered who he was. On his shield was the picture of a tree pulled up by the roots. The unknown knight rode straight to the tent of Bois-Guilbert and struck his shield with the point of his spear. The people fell silent. The trumpets sounded and the judge gave the knights the signal to begin. 3. The two knights galloped towards each other and started the fight with a clash of spears. Both their spears broke and rocked the riders in their saddles but they managed to remain seated. I.   7. In 1912 the British explorer Captain Robert Falcon Scott and his men were caught in a fierce blizzard and perished while returning to their base camp after reaching the South Pole. Their tent buried under snow, was discovered the following day by Sir Ernest Shakleton. Scott was found holding in his dead hand an unfinished letter addressed to his author friend, James Barrie. After describing their blizzard as an impending doom, Scott wrote that he and his colleagues were spending their time singing songs and pleasant conversation. Below these lines he had written in bold letters one word – COURAGE. When he returned to England, Shakleton handed over the letter to Sir James Barrie who read it and kept it in a box. A few years later, Sir James developed a defect in his right hand because of which he could not hold a pen. The author was in despair because he felt he would never be able to write again. One day in a very sad and hopeless mood, he took out Scott’s letter and read it again. It lifted his spirits and set him thinking. If Scott and his men could remain cheerful in the face of certain death, could he not learn to face adversity bravely? He picked up his pen and began practicing with his left hand.
