  2. In the Beginning • History of the Internet in New Brunswick • 1994 • Dale Edgar writes DOS package of applications to do dialing, news, mail and gopher. He calls his company Cybernetic Control Inc., and the package is CommSet. Tim Smith works for Dale and they write code, all of which is in X86 assembler. NBTel starts distributing it as their standard package. • NBTel launches a new Community Net service with no-fixed IP address. Price is $35 a month flat rate. Modems are completely flooded when people won't hang up. People would come home after work and sign on in case they wanted to use the Internet later that evening. Checking the mail every 5 minutes made sure your connection didn't time out and drop the connection.

Sleeping with NBTel • 1995 • NBTel becomes concerned about legalities of distributing all the shareware that is on the market. • Professor XXXX in Sackville forms Internet Software Technologies (IST) with Chris MacNeil and Peter Crawshaw who build a windows based package of client software. It gradually replaces COMMSET as the NBTel standard package.
