  1. Initiative in the muon front end

  2. International Design Study • Assume: • Interim conceptual design report – 2009/10 • Full conceptual design report – 2012/13 • Require: • Demonstration of ionisation cooling – MICE • FP7: require: • Contribution to concept development: • Development of front end (phase-rotation, bunching, cooling scheme etc.) in context of end-to-end design • MICE Phase II

  3. Possible requests under FP7 Palmer Phase rotation and bunching • Generic: • Development of cavity-fabrication capability • Also magnet capability • Development of power sources

  4. Possible requests under FP7 • Cooling: • MICE Phase II • Cavity/coupling-coil module: • Collaboration with MICE-US/MuCool • ISS baseline – FS2a • Development of MICE programme … • LiH • ‘Novel’ cooling schemes: • Development of ring/FFAG 6D cooling schemes • Prototype development in out years • Consideration of contribution to helical cooler • Imperative to make MICE Phase II a success • Generic: • Development of manufacturing techniques for high-yield manufacture of high-gradient cavities
