  1. Lesson 2 Salvation

  2. The plan of Salvation originated in the counsels of the eternal Godhead before the creation and fall of man. It involved the redemptive work of Christ, involving His crucifixion, resurrection, ascension, exaltation, glorification, intercessory ministry, and second coming. Such a plan is a revelation of the redeeming grace of the Almighty God.

  3. Mankind has faced the age old questions of: Is this all there is and is there more than this life? That brings us to the question: How do I know I have eternal life? Mark 10:17 As Jesus started on his way, a man ran up to him and fell on his knees before him. "Good teacher,“he asked, "what must I do to inherit eternal life?"(NIV) To answer this question there are several facts we must first understand. The Bible says:

  4. John 5:21For just as the Father raises the dead and gives them life, even so the Son gives life to whom he is pleased to give it.(NIV) I Jn 5:11-13 And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life. I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life.(NIV)

  5. Eternal life means more than eternal existence. Eternal life refers to livingwith God. "This is eternal life," Jesus declared, "that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent" . Eternal life is the highest quality of life. According to the apostle Paul, it is freedomfrom, sin, lifeand a positive relationshipwith God. This is in contrast to spiritual death, which results from a life of sin. John 17:3 Romans 6:21-23

  6. Eternal life comes through faith in Jesus Christ. He taught, "He who believes in Me has everlasting life" The Bible is very clear that God wants to give us this life. Since God is God, why doesn’t He just give eternal life to all mankind? The reason is SIN! So what in the world is sin anyway? What is Sin? Sin is unbeliefor disobedianceof God's will, either by omitting to do what God's law requires or by doing what it forbids. The transgression can occur in thought, word or deed. 1 John 3:4,15Matthew 3:22Romans 1:32

  7. Mankind was created without sin, morally upright and inclined to do good. But sin entered into human experience when Adam and Evedisobeyedthe direct command of God by eating the forbidden fruit in the Garden of Eden. Because Adam was the head and representative of the whole human race, his sin affected all mankind.Associated with this guilt is the sin naturepassed from Adam to all his descendants. Out of this perverted nature arise all the sins that people commit. No person is free from involvement in sin. Ecclesiastes 7:29Genesis 3:6Romans 5:12-21 Matthew 15:19

  8. Because God is totally Holy in nature and man is corrupt in his sinful nature, they can’t exist together. God is Light and man is darkness, so when the Light is present darkness has no choice, it must disappear. Isa 59:7-10 Their feet rush into sin; they are swift to shed innocent blood. Their thoughts are evil thoughts; ruin and destruction mark their ways. The way of peace they do not know; there is no justice in their paths. They have turned them into crooked roads; no one who walks in them will know peace. So justice is far from us, and righteousness does not reach us. We look for light, but all is darkness; for brightness, but we walk in deep shadows. Like the blind we grope along the wall, feeling our way like men without eyes. At midday we stumble as if it were twilight; among the strong, we are like the dead.(NIV)

  9. Why can’t I earn my own salvation? Statement:Imean, really I’m not so bad, I’ve tried to live a good andhonest life. I’ve never killed anybody. I go to church sometimes, and I even throw something in the basket. I am not as bad some people I know. God will understand. Answer:Rom 3:10-12 As it is written: "There is no one righteous, not even one; there is no one who understands, no one who seeks God. All have turned away, they have together become worthless; there is no one who does good, not even one."(NIV)

  10. The Bible says that God is Love, but God is holy and can’t violate His nature. So since we can never earn our own salvation, we are totally lostfor our sin. It is only by God’s love, that we can be forgiven of our sin and be reunited with God as it was meant from the beginning. It is through God’s love that we are given an opportunityto accept God’s gift of salvation. If God loves us, how can he send man to hell? 2 Pet 2:4 For if God did not spare angels when they sinned, but sent them to hell, putting them into gloomy dungeons to be held for judgment;(NIV)

  11. John 3:16-21 "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son. This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what he has done has been done through God." (NIV)

  12. There are so many religions, why do Christians say there is only one way? At times it does seem very confusing everyone says this is the right way or path. But the unique thing about the Bible is that it claims that there is only one way. Rom 3:22-24 This righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference, for all have sinned and fall short of theglory of God, and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.(NIV)

  13. 2 Pet 2:1-3But there were also false prophets among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you. They will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the sovereign Lord who bought them-- bringing swift destruction on themselves. Many will follow their shameful ways and will bring the way of truth into disrepute. In their greed these teachers will exploit you with stories they have made up. Theircondemnation has long been hanging over them, and their destruction has not been sleeping.

  14. 1 Cor 1:19-21For it is written: "I will destroy the wisdom of the wise; the intelligence of the intelligent I will frustrate.“Where is the wise man? Where is the scholar? Where is the philosopher of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not know him, God was pleased through the foolishness of what was preached to save those who believe.(NIV)

  15. Eternal life comes through faith in Jesus Christ. He taught, "He who believes in Me has everlasting life“. So the question to us all is: Have we repented of our sins, believed in our hearts that Jesus Christ is the one and only way to have eternal life? John 14:1-6"Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me.In my Father's house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. Iam going there to prepare a place for you.And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am You know the way to the place where I am going." Thomas said to him, "Lord, we don't know where you are going, so how can we know the way?" Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.(NIV)

  16. One of the greatest witnesses in our life is our testimony of the grace and power of having God in our life. So for a moment remember back to when you first believed: Write down your testimony
