  1. Update on the S4 Ringdown Search Lisa Goggin, Caltech with Duncan Brown & Alan Weinstein Nov LSC meeting MIT, 4 November 2006 G-xxxxxx-xx-x

  2. Status of the Ringdown Search • Pipeline is in place • Currently looking at data from times when all three ifo’s were in Science • Have injected ringdown signals into data • Investigated consistency of recovered parameters with injected parameters, f, Q, deff in single ifo’s • Developed new coincidence test (detailed in next slides) • Currently in process of tuning coincidence windows Gxxxxxx-00-Z LSC Meeting MIT, 11/05/06

  3. Coincidence Test Contours of constant ds2 • Template bank is not uniform in f and Q. • Rather than looking at f and Q separately, look at both parameters together via metric dQ df0 • Can plot contours of constant ds2. If contours overlap => coincidence Gxxxxxx-00-Z LSC Meeting MIT, 11/05/06

  4. Implementation of coincidence test • Now transform to a space such that the contours of constant ds2 surrounding templates are circles • ( f, Q ) ( X,Y ) • If circles overlap, • i.e. if • D < ra+rb • => coincidence Gxxxxxx-00-Z LSC Meeting MIT, 11/05/06

  5. Missed / Found Injections • First cut: loose windows • Clear separation of triples, doubles and missed injections • need to tune this coincidence Gxxxxxx-00-Z LSC Meeting MIT, 11/05/06

  6. Next • Finish tuning coincidence parameters • Implement veto analysis • Open box in January (Inspiral f2f) • Paper by March LSC meeting Gxxxxxx-00-Z LSC Meeting MIT, 11/05/06

  7. GWDAW • Presentation will be mostly technical, detailing pipeline • in particular the coincidence test • Will show horizon distance plot • Uses S4 noise curve (available to public) • This has been presented before • Would like to present a demonstration of effectiveness of coincidence test • Preferably missed / found injection plot • No zero-lag or background triggers will be presented Gxxxxxx-00-Z LSC Meeting MIT, 11/05/06
