  2. What are LINks? LINk stands for Local Involvement Network and they are a networks of local people and organisations that promote and support the involvement of people in the in improving local health and social care services.

  3. What LINks do: The role of a LINk is to: • give everyone an opportunity to say what they think about their local health and social care services – what is working well and what is not so good; • give people an opportunity to monitor and check how services are planned and run; and • provide feedback on what people have said about services, so that things can change for the better.

  4. How LINks do this? • Reports and recommendations to commissioners • to ask commissioners for information • to go into some types of health and social care premises to observe the nature and quality of services • to refer issues to the local Overview and Scrutiny Committee

  6. Year One – 2008/2009 LINk in Salford wanted to gain some insight Into how the public saw Salford’s Health & WellbeingServices.

  7. Year One – 2008/2009 We asked the people of Salford: • What would make you happier? • What would make you healthier? • What concerns you? • What is your top priority? • What would you change?

And you shared your voice Salford’s public said their top 3 priorities were: • Diet and Exercise Promote healthy lifestyles through the provision of information, services and projects that will help people to eat healthily and exercise more. • Access Promote access to local health and social care services by ensuring people know what services are available, how to access them and through the provision of services that can be accessed equally by all. • Healthcare Service Provision Promote the provision of healthcare services that offer quick, effective diagnosis and treatment and improve the patient experience

So In Year 2 - 2009/10… We worked on these areas to: • Diet and Exercise Promote healthy lifestyles through the provision of information, services and projects that will help people to eat healthily and exercise more. • Access Promote access to local health and social care services by ensuring people know what services are available, how to access them and through the provision of services that can be accessed equally by all. • Healthcare Service Provision Promote the provision of healthcare services that offer quick, effective diagnosis and treatment and improve the patient experience

  12. In Year 3… 2010/11 The LINk built on their previous work with: • Healthy Lifestyles Project Bringing Salford’s first Healthy Café and Healthy Takeaway Van, bringing Exercise into the Community and Workplace and methods from reducing Stress

In Year 3… 2010/11 The LINk built on their previous work with: • Healthy Lifestyles Project Bringing Salford’s first Healthy Café and Healthy Takeaway Van, bringing Exercise into the Community and Workplace and methods from reducing Stress • Access to Services We commissioned the Salford LINk Project to do a study into understand the access to healthcare services amongst black and minority ethnic communities in Salford. • Fed this back to Health and Wellbeing Services and the Salford People

In Year 4… 2011/12 The LINk looked at: • Access for people with Long Term Conditions LINk in Salford commissioned Salford Disability Forum to carry out a study into Personalisation in Salford • ‘My Care’ Model LINk in Salford commissioned WealthShare Creations to carry out a study into the ‘My Care’ model • Cancer Screening LINk in Salford commissioned SALT (Seedley and Langworthy Trust) to carry out a study into Cancer Screening in Langworthy

  19. This Year – 2012/13 Under the spotlight are:

Public Sector Cuts To work to mitigate the impact of public sector cuts on the delivery of health and social care services in Salford. • Hospital Discharge To work to support care in the community and the provision of good quality aftercare in the community following discharge from hospital. • Patient Transport To conduct further qualitative research with local people to identify why ambulance care is important to them. • Improving GP surgeries To conduct a programme of activity with GP surgeries to improve appointments, opening times, continuity of doctors and reception staff service • Quality of care homes To conduct To conduct further qualitative research with local people to identify why the quality of care homes is important to them.

  22. Become a LINk in Salford Member SIGN UP so you can dip in and dip out You can sign up to the LINk today by filling in one of our forms and we’ll send you updates on what’s going on with Salford’s Health and Wellbeing Services and updates about our projects

Become a Steering Group Member The LINk in Salford steering group members meet monthly to guide the direction of the LINk work plans on behalf of the residents of Salford with support from Unlimited Potential, the host organisation. The LINk Steering group members are made up of volunteers who are residents of Salford. Sound Interesting? Anyone can join so contact us about joining the Steering Group

  24. Do Enter & View Visits LINk members are being trained to Enter and View health and wellbeing services to look at whether they are happy with the quality of these services Sound Interesting? You can train as and Enter & View Authorised Representative. We have training sessions running throughout the year. A CRB check is required. Just get in touch.

  25. Become a LINk Volunteer We have lots of volunteering opportunities at LINk in Salford and can offer learning and development so you can build your skills and meet your goals Sound Interesting? Just drop us a line to discuss this further

  26. Join the Events Planning Group We have set up a partnership working group to look at the way LINk in Salford runs its community events. We have individual members and people who represent various organisations across Salford. Sound Interesting? The next meeting is on 29th August 1.00-2.00pm at Innovation Forum on Frederick Road
