  3. *If you yield to even to one false charge, you may open yourself up to other unjust attacks. • Lincoln was a risk-taker, assuming a bold stand and not wavering in the process. • He endured the slander but overcame it to secure victory in the Civil War and preserve the nation • Lincoln tried to avoid provocation whenever possible by using humor. • By telling a story, he could turn the tables on an antagonist.
