India“Where Truth Triumphs” • The Republic of India is a sovereign country in South Asia. • It is the seventh-largest country by geographical area, the second most populous country, and the most populous liberal democracy in the world. • India is the largest democracy in the world. The Constitution defines India as a sovereign, socialist, secular, democratic republic. • It has three branches of governance: the Legislature, Executive, and Judiciary.

  3. Japan"Land of the Rising Sun" • Japan is an island country in East Asia. The characters that make up Japan‘s name mean “sun-origin”, which is why Japan is sometimes identified as the “Land of the Rising Sun”. Japan’s capital and largest city is Tokyo. • The first signs of civilization on the Japanese archipelago appeared around 10,000 BC. • Close government-industry cooperation, a strong work ethic, mastery of high technology, and a comparatively small defense allocation have helped Japan become the second largest economy in the world. • Japan is a leading nation in the fields of scientific research, technology, machinery and medical research. Nearly 700,000 researchers share a US$130 billion research and development budget, the third largest in the world.

  4. India-Japan(Indo-Japan Relations) • Trade Figures • Bilateral trade figures between the two countries are also positive. Japan is among India's top five trading partners. The total trade between India and Japan was close to US$ 6 billion during 2005-06. • Imports • India's imports from Japan are dominated by capital and knowledge intensive manufactured products such as machinery, transport equipment, electronic goods, chemicals and metal products. • Exports • India's exports to Japan comprise mostly raw material and minerals such as marine products, minerals and iron ore, gems and jewelleryand textile products.

  5. Indian Railways • The first train in India became operational on 1851-12-22, and was used for the hauling of construction material in Roorkee. A year and a half later, on 1853-04-16, the first passenger train service was inaugurated between BoriBunder, Bombay and Thana. This was the formal birth of railways in India. • The shortest named station is Ib and the longest is Sri Venkatanarasimharajuvaripeta. The Himsagar Express, between Kanyakumari and Jammu Tawi, has the longest run in terms of distance and time on Indian Railways network. The Bhopal Shatabdi Express is the fastest train in India today having a maximum speed of 140 km/h (87 mph) on the Faridabad-Agra section.

  6. Freight • IR carries a huge variety of goods ranging from mineral ores, fertilizers and petrochemicals, agricultural produce, iron & steel, multimodal traffic and others. Ports and major urban areas have their own dedicated freight lines and yards. Many important freight stops have dedicated platforms and independent lines. • Indian Railways makes 70% of its revenues and most of its profits from the freight sector, and uses these profits to cross-subsidise the loss-making passenger sector.

  7. JICA • The Japan International Cooperation Agency is an independent governmental agency that coordinates official development assistance (ODA) for the government of Japan. It is commonly known by the acronym "JICA". • It is chartered with assisting economic and social growth in developing countries, and the promotion of international cooperation. • 1954 Apr - Japan joins Colombo Plan and initiates technical cooperation programs • 2003 Oct - JICA established as an independent governmental agency.

DFCCES-Jeevantirth : Public Consultation • JICA study team and Ministry of Railways, Govt. of India have jointly undertaken Feasibility Study for development of Dedicated Multimodal High Axle Load Freight Corridor between Delhi & Mumbai (Package 1: Maharashtra & Gujarat section). Public consultation needs to be undertaken in all of the districts en-route in Gujarat & Maharashtra in two phases. • Phase II - to be conducted in June-July 2007 • Phase III - to be conducted in August-September 2007 • Note: First Phase was held in February 2007to disseminate general information to the general public on the Project at few places.

Objectives of JICA Study • 1) To explore the feasibility of the development of dedicated high-axle load multimodal freight corridors, one as the Western (Delhi-Mumbai) and the other as Eastern (Delhi- Howrah) rail routes with computerized control, by the year 2021-22; • 2) To assess the feasibility of selected freight railway development project; and • 3) To share Japanese experience in railway development through the implementation of JICA Study.

  13. Area of JICA Study • a. Eastern Corridor: Son Nagar-Mughal Sarai-Dadri(via Kurja) and Kurja - Ludhiana • b. Western Corridor: Mumbai/JNPT-Vasai Rd.-Vadodara-Ahmedabad-Palanpur-AjmerPhulera- Rewari-Dadri)

  14. Scope of JICA Study • Scope of JICA Study is outlined as follows: • a. Base line survey for railway transport capacity development; • b. Justification of the construction of new freight corridor; • c. Feasibility study on the dedicated freight corridor project.

  15. Scope of the Stakeholder/Public Consultation Meeting • Second Stage: • To verify opinions of the general public that are directly affected by the railway alignment of DFC Project and elaborate with the PAFs a general framework of RRP.

  16. Scope of the Stakeholder/Public Consultation Meeting • Third Stage: • Reach general agreement in principle with the identified PAFs in terms of the contents of RRP.

  17. To examine wildlife and forest reserves directly affected by the Project including Balaram-Ambaji Wildlife Sanctuary.

  23. Junction and Crossing Stations • There are a number of junction station and crossing stations subject to construction along the railway’s alignment.

  24. ROBs and RUBs • There are a number of road-over bridges and road-under bridges subject to construction. Thereby railway crossing is reduced i.e. railway accidents are drastically reduced.
