  1. ATF2 optics developments • Reducing number of bends (from 8 in FF to 3 looks OK) • Since do not worry about SR, the minimum number of bends in FF region is 3, which give possibility to control three parameters: • zero dispersion at IP • make nonzero dispersion prime at IP • make certain dispersion at the SF5 sextupole • Optimization of bend’s length (possible, not done yet) • Can make bends in the chicane and FF part the same • presently chicane bends are 0.81m long, rectangular bends • FF bends are now sector bends, can also be made 0.81m long and rectangular • Compensation of 3rd order dispersion (not finished) • Some 3rd order dispersion is coming from extraction line. It can be corrected with octupoles in extraction line or in FF itself A.Seryi, M.Pivi, M.Woodley, et al.

  2. ATFEXTRSHRTFF5

  3. ATFEXTRSHRTFF6 with 3 bends in FF part

  4. ATFEXTRSHRTFF6 for 1% dEE The biggest remaining aberration (with 1% E offset) is third order dispersion which comes from extraction line ATF2 parameters, IP beam, sigma x,x',y,y',z,E = 2.8257 706.4159 0.034607 346.0717 8 10 1.28 Retrieve saved optics savedff/ATFEXTRSHRTFF6.mad sge=1% sgx=4.0393 sgy= 0.043644 sgx/x0=1.4295 sgy/y0= 1.2611 sge=0.08% sgx=3.2283 sgy= 0.03864 sgx/x0=1.1425 sgy/y0= 1.1165

  5. ATFEXTRSHRTFF6 - 2ndand 3rdorder dispersion Corrected by sextupoles in extraction line (m) (km) Can be corrected by octupoles in extraction line

  6. 3rd order dispersion can be corrected by octupoles in the extraction line

  7. ATFEXTRSHRTFF7 with octupoles in extraction line

  8. ATFEXTRSHRTFF7 Octupoles in the extraction line reduced the 3rd order dispersion but created other aberrations. This can be reoptimized to restore the bandwidth.

  9. Conclusion • Number of bends in FF part can be reduced from 8 to 3 • Total number of new bends is 7 (with 4 in chicane and 3 in FF) • All these bends can be based on the same design, to minimize cost • There is some 3rd order dispersion coming from extraction line • It can be compensated by octupoles • This corrections was not finished yet
