  8. What is a CLET? • CLET stands for Clinical Learning Environment Team • There are over 20 CLETs covering all the placement areas and specialisms • It is a working group aiming to improve the quality of learning on placements • Students are involved

What can you do before the placement? • Check location & travel & accommodation arrangements • Contact the placement area by phone and visit • Who is the nurse in charge and who is your mentor? • During that call; find shift patterns, your off duty (? Sunday starts) • Read up about the placement- use the RGU library/profiles in student centre • Find out the names of your PEF/PE/PEL

  14. On arrival • Take your clinical assessment documents and SKILLS PASSPORT and keep them on the ward/dept • Professional conduct • Induction/ orientation • Identify mentor/depute mentor • Negotiate night nursing experience

Clinical Assessment Initial Discussion • Initial interview (within 72hours) • Discuss development plan from previous placement • Review domains of learning- Professional and Ethical practice, Care Delivery, Care Management and Personal and Professional Development • Compile a contract of learning • Arrange date for mid-placement and final interview • 40% working with mentor to be recorded on timesheet (indirect also)

  16. Contract of Learning Should: • be mutually agreed by mentor and student • make expectations explicit • clarify what you are aiming to achieve (objectives) • clarify how you are to achieve your objectives (learning opportunities) • be referred to regularly and reviewed regularly

Formative Assessments Stage 2 • There are 2 formative assessments which you must achieve by the end of stage 2 • Principles of Asepsis • Engaging with Clients- Stage 2 • These are found in your skills passports • Get your mentor to sign them when achieved and verify this in your CAR • Patient Group Directives

  18. Clinical Assessment Mid-placement discussion • Mid-way assessment • Review learning contract and assess achievement • Time to reflect if you are meeting level two practice outcomes and implement action plan for achievement if required • Arrange final assessment date

Clinical AssessmentFinal Interview • This is the time when you and your mentor reflect on your performance on placement • Your mentor records their comments grades your performance • You record your comments and indicate the grade you would award yourself • Timesheets need to be completed accurately and signed (lilac) • Make sure you have all your documentation before you leave the placement

Cleanliness Champions- Stage 2 • Unit 4 - personal protective equipment • Unit 5 - safe use and disposal of sharps • Unit 6 - maintenance of a clean health care environment • Unit 7 - safe handling and disposal of waste • For support follow the cleanliness champions flowchart in your skills passports

Skills Passports • These are important documents which tell the mentor that you have practised skills in the skills centre and need to practice with real patients • Take them with you, leave them on placement while you are there, so they can be completed as and when skill opportunities arise.

  25. Inter-professional Learning • Demonstrate evidence of interdisciplinary collaboration. • Responsibility of yourself, the student, to arrange - support will be available from your mentor. • Discuss this task at your initial interview with your mentor and again at your midway assessment. This activity should be completed at the end of the placement. • The activity links with the Domain ‘Professional and Ethical Practice’ in the Clinical Assessment Profile (CAP). • Forms to complete this activity are with your personal tutors

  26. Night Duty • The night duty policy has now changed to be more flexible • It is expected that you acquire experience in the 24 hour 7 days a week service

  27. Evaluation • You have a responsibility to complete an online evaluation form following your placement. • This is important for quality assurance purposes and to enhance placement learning for future students • It is an opportunity for you to say what went well and what didn’t go well • Contact your student support network with any issues
