TheSixVerb Tenses • Present- existing or happening now • Past- existing or happening in the past. • Future- existing or happening in the future. • Present perfect- existing or happening before now or starting in the past and continuing. • Past perfect- existing or happening before a specific time in the past. • Future perfect- Existing or happening before a specific time in the future.

Active and PassiveVoice • A verb in the active voice expresses an action done by the subject. • Example: Pedro surprised Lolita. • (The subject ________ preforms the action) • A verb in the passive voice expresses and action received by its subject. • Example: Lolita was surprised by Pedro • (The subject ______ receives the action. In other words. Lolita is not the one doing the surprising, she is getting the surprise)

Formingthepassivevoice • The passive voice is always a verb phrase that includes a from of the verb ‘’be’’ and the main verbs past participle. • Examples: • A gift is given each year. • The book was written in 1996. • The watch was broken in the fight. • Julie and Jim were elected class capitains.

Whento use thepassivevoice • When you don´t know the performer of the action. • The Globe Theatre was built in 1599. • When you do not want to reveal the performer of the actions. • Many mistakes were made in the exam. • When you want to emphasize the receiver of the action. • Abraham Lincoln was elected president in 1860.
