  1. MAKHAN SINGH PROJECT MANAGER ‘OPENING THE BOX’

  2. Beginning Remit: To develop, trial and evaluate means of increasing the number of students studying mathematics and encouraging participation from groups of learners who have not traditionally been well represented in higher education.

  3. Beginning • 4 regions: Project Officers + Research team • West Midlands – Coventry University • Yorkshire & Humberside – Leeds University • London – Queen Mary, University of London • Sheffield-Hallam University

  4. Beginning • Worked with circa 7 secondary schools per region • Schools identified with help from Aim Higher

  5. Success "The funding council in Wales is grateful to have been involved in this landmark programme. When we decided to join with colleagues in England to work with 'More Maths Grads', we saw it as an important opportunity to heighten enthusiasm and raise the profile of the study of mathematics in schools. Wales has been looking hard at how best to improve the teaching of maths and the take-up of the subject in our universities, and we have been delighted with the emerging evidence of this programme's success. The resources pack created by MMG has been particularly effective in Wales, bridging the gap between study and an idea of how the skills learned can play a part in a range of careers. Partnerships are now in place between schools in Wales, employers and local education authorities which we believe offer a good prospect of continuing to build on the success of this programme: we are fully confident that it has made, and will continue to make, a difference."
