  2. The Artist Deb Haugen is a well-known artist who focuses the majority of her art work around the ‘organic’ element of the environment and uses these as a stimulus for a lot of her work. She states that… ‘People have tagged me "the organic artist" because of the look and feel of my art.  Funny thing is that's what inspires me, the environment.  I'm infatuated by the passage of time and the resulting layering within nature.’ http://www.theorganicgallery.com/collage.html

Art Session KS2 The Learning Objectives: The main LO’s for this session are to… 1.) explore the work of Deb Haugen 2.) discover the hidden messages within the art work 3.) use the theme of ‘organic’ to create my own piece of digital photography based around the work of Deb Haugen It may be that the topic is broken up into multiple sessions in order to ensure each LO is successfully achieved. The success criteria: Children are encouraged to explore the theme of ‘organic’ to capture digital photo’s from their environment and make this into a piece of digital artwork. The images which are taken should be uploaded and printed out in order to make them into a collage at a later stage (similar to the style of Deb Haugen.)

  6. Art Session KS2 Asking Questions: Asking children questions about their work enables them to communicate their understanding and the way they have interpreted a piece of art work. The responses to the questions can also be used as a way of assessing their learning, have they understood the concepts and are they able to explain why they have portrayed their art work in a particular way. The following questions can be used as examples of the types of questions to ask: What is the work? What is it about? What is happening? What is the theme of the work? Differentiation: Lower ability learners may find it more challenging to select images to take photographs of and it may therefore be an idea to offer a selection of resources that can be used as a starting point, to encourage independent investigation and give ideas for future images. In addition, the theme of ‘organic’ may cause some confusion and it may be a good idea to look into what types of aspects could be covered in this topic such as the environment, food and materials. Otherwise, children could select their own theme to focus on and capture images around this, such as different seasons.
