Why ICT system is important for the police and law enforcement? • The National database have been set up to hold database such as criminal records, profile of wanted persons, data on stolen cars, DNA patterns and fingerprints and drivers who had licenses suspended or revoked. • The National database can be accessed by law enforcement officers throughout the country.

  3. Police and other lae enforcement officers use the computerfor a wide range of functions such as: • Preparing reports • Tracking the history of telephone calls from a particular address • If a witnesses but cannot identify a criminal, the police can use appropriate software to compose a picture of the alleged criminal, based on the witness’s description. This is called profiling. • Identifying patterns of criminal behavior, and carrying out statistical analysis.

  4. Law firms • Law firms have found productivity both of attorneys and of other staff increases with the use of ICT. Tasks such as reviewing case status and deadlines and preparing legal documents can be very time-consuming if ICT is not used! • They fall into 2 main categories: business management and practice management. • Business management • Practice management

  5. Business Management • ICT can be used for : • Word processing – typing legal documents and other documents. Detailed templates of legal documents can be set up quickly adapted for specific clients. • Data storage and retrieval – storing information about clients. • Spreadsheets – for accounting purposes such as billing, income and expenses.

  6. Practical mangement • Software help lawyer practice law. It includes: • Offers expertise in a substantive area of law such as bankruptcy, family law or personal injury. • Help with case management and document assembly. This can be enable lawyers to find information easily on past cases and judgments to use as a precedents in their arguments in cases with which they are currently dealing. • Legal research websites and law students obtain comprehensive information about case law and legislation from many countries around the world.
