Structure-2 Main Layers • Epidermis: outer, thinner layer • Dead & living cells • Some cells produce melanin • Pigment that gives skin, hair, iris (eye) their coloring • The more melanin the more the protection from UV (ultraviolet) rays • Dermis: inner, thicker layer • Gives skin its elasticity • Sweat glands, blood vessels More melanin

  7. Care • Good hygiene • Wash face morning & night • Daily shower/bath slows bacteria growth that causes body odor • Balanced diet • Vitamin A • Milk, egg yolks, liver, green leafy & yellow vegetables, yellow fruits • Wear sunscreen

Problems • Acne • Inflammation of hair follicles and sebaceous glands • Inside each hair follicle is a sebaceous gland that produces an oily substance called sebum that lubricates the skin • If body produces too much oil, it might be trapped in hair follicle, bacteria can multiply in the blocked follicle and become inflamed causing a pimple
