Many well known artists were not making money selling their work, so they turned to creating posters for companies during these lean financial times, thus reaching a wider audience because of their notoriety. This is a first form of celebrity endorsements. As a means of working through the depression, many designers mastered the technique of presenting a sales message with an immediate urgency.
