Always view a car: • at house on the logbook • In Daylight • when the car is dry so you can see it • Take a parent or friend for moral support • Things to look out for: • Does the V5c (logbook) match the number under the bonet? • Has it been 'Cut–and–shut‘ – teltale marks on sills • Do the number plates match the car? • Does it have a service history? • Are there gaps in the history? Does the mileage match the car? • Is the engine bay Sparkly clean? • How many keys • Get a PRO opionion (RAC/AA etc) • Test Drive • Can you reach everything easily • Insurance! • Allow at least half an hour and drive on all kinds of road . • Can you get in and out of the car easily? • Can you adjust the seat and steering so you're comfortable? • Can you see the instruments clearly and reach the controls easily? • Try reversing into a parking space to check all round vision and blind spots. • Tyres/wheels – if scuffed and curbed has the car been looked after? • Engine and Suspension • Steering and Breaks • Clutch & Gears • Electricals – check they all actually work Inspecting a second hand car
