OUTLINE ZECHARIAH CHAPTER SIX

In Zechariah's eighth vision, he sees four chariots with different colored horses coming from between two mountains. These chariots represent the establishment of civil government under Joshua and Zerubbabel. The angel explains that these are four spirits of heaven, carrying out the Lord's commands. This vision relates to the previous visions of the Messiah and his spiritual kingdom.

READ: ZECHARIAH 6:1-3 1 I turned and raised my eyes and looked, and behold, four chariots were coming from between two mountains, and the mountains were mountains of bronze. 2 With the first chariot were red horses, with the second chariot black horses, 3 With the third chariot white horses, and with the fourth chariot dappled horses-- strong steeds.

READ: ZECHARIAH 6:4-6 4 I answered and said to the angel who talked with me, What are these, my lord? 5 The angel answered and said to me, These are four spirits of heaven, who go out from their station before the Lord of all the earth. 6 The one with the black horses is going to the north country, the white are going after them, and the dappled are going toward the south country.

He answered me, These are the horns that have scattered Judah, Israel, and Jerusalem. WHAT DID THESE FOUR CHARIOTS REPRESENT? WHAT DID THE FOUR HORNS REPRESENT? ASSYRIA - EGYPT - BABYLONIA - PERSIA WHERE WERE THESE CHARIOTS GOING? WHAT WAS THE EMPIRE OF THE NORTH BABYLONIA? WHAT WAS THE EMPIRE OF THE SOUTH EGYPT?

  9. READ: ZECHARIAH 5:7-8 7 The strong steeds went out, eager to go, that they might walk to and fro throughout the earth. And He said, Go, walk to and fro throughout the earth. They walked to and fro throughout the earth. 8 He called to me, and spoke to me, saying, See, those who go toward the north country have given rest to My Spirit in the north country.

They walked to and fro throughout the earth. WHAT WERE THESE STEEDS EAGER TO DO? WHO IS HE? WHAT DID HE TELL THEM TO DO? READ: ISAIAH 43:6 6 I will say to the north, Give them up! And to the south, Do not keep them back! Bring My sons from afar, and My daughters from the ends of the earth-- (NKJ)

  11. QUESTIONS: ZECHARIAH 6:7-8 8 He called to me, and spoke to me, saying, See, those who go toward the north country have given rest to My Spirit in the north country. WHAT DID THE ANGEL SAY TO ZECHARIAH? WHERE IS THE NORTH COUNTRY? BABYLON? WHEN WILL THE LORD’S SPIRIT REST? READ: EZEKIEL 16:42 42 I will lay to rest My fury toward you, and My jealousy shall depart from you. I will be quiet and be angry no more. READ: JEREMIAH 3:18 18 In those days the house of Judah shall walk with the house of Israel, and they shall come together out of the land of the northto the land that I have given as an inheritance to your fathers.

READ: ZECHARIAH 6:9-11 9 The word of the LORD came to me, saying: 10 Receive the gift from the captives-- from Heldai, Tobijah, and Jedaiah, who have come from Babylon-- and go the same day and enter the house of Josiah the son of Zephaniah. 11 Take the silver and gold, make an elaborate crown, and set it on the head of Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest.

QUESTIONS: ZECHARIAH 6:9-11 9 The word of the LORD came to me, saying: 10 Receive the gift from the captives-- from Heldai, Tobijah, and Jedaiah, who have come from Babylon-- and go the same day and enter the house of Josiah the son of Zephaniah. WHAT DID THE LORD SAY TO ZECHARIAH? WHO CAME FROM BABYLON? WHAT DID THEY BRING? WHOSE HOUSE WERE THEY TO ENTER?

  14. QUESTIONS: ZECHARIAH 6:9-11 WHO CAME FROM BABYLON – WHAT DID THEY BRING? READ: EZRA 1:7-11 7 King Cyrus brought out the articles of the house of the LORD, which Nebuchadnezzar had taken from Jerusalem and put in the temple of his gods; 8 Cyrus king of Persia brought them out by the hand of Mithredath the treasurer, and counted them out to Sheshbazzar the prince of Judah. 9 This is the number of them: thirty gold platters, one thousand silver platters, twenty-nine knives, 10 Thirty gold basins, four hundred and ten silver basins of a similar kind, and one thousand other articles. 11 All the articles of gold and silver were five thousand four hundred. All these Sheshbazzar took with the captives who were brought from Babylon to Jerusalem. (NKJ)

  15. QUESTIONS: ZECHARIAH 6:9-11 11 Take the silver and gold, make an elaborate crown, and set it on the head of Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest. WHAT DID THE LORD TELL THEM TO DO? WHY PUT THE CROWN ON JOSHUA’S HEAD? READ: ZECHARIAH 3:4-5 4 He answered and spoke to those who stood before Him, saying, Take away the filthy garments from him. And to him He said, See, I have removed your iniquity from you, and I will clothe you with rich robes. 5 And I said, Let them put a clean turban on his head. They put a clean turban on his head, and they put the clothes on him. And the Angel of the LORD stood by. (NKJ)

From His place He shall branch out, and He shall build the temple of the LORD; 13 Yes, He shall build the temple of the LORD. He shall bear the glory, and shall sit and rule on His throne; so He shall be a priest on His throne, and the counsel of peace shall be between them both.

WHAT TEMPLE IS HE GOING TO BUILD? WHAT GLORY SHALL HE BEAR? WHAT THRONE SHALL HE SIT ON? WHO IS THIS HIGH PRIEST?

  18. QUESTIONS: ZECHARIAH 6:12-13 WHO REBUILT THE TEMPLE? ZERUBBABEL? JOSHUA? THE BRANCH? READ: EZRA 5:1-2 1 The prophet Haggai and Zechariah the son of Iddo, prophets, prophesied to the Jews who were in Judah and Jerusalem, in the name of the God of Israel, who was over them. 2 Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel and Jeshuathe son of Jozadakrose up and began to build the house of God which is in Jerusalem; and the prophets of God were with them, helping them. (NKJ) WHO IS THIS BRANCH? WHAT TEMPLE IS HE GOING TO BUILD?

  19. QUESTIONS: ZECHARIAH 6:12-13 WHO IS THIS BRANCH? READ: ZECHARIAH 3:8 8 Hear, O Joshua, the high priest, you and your companions who sit before you, for they are a wondrous sign. Behold, I am bringing forth My Servant the BRANCH. (NKJ) READ: ISAIAH 4:2 2 In that daythe Branch of the LORD shall be beautiful and glorious. The fruit of the earth shall be excellent and appealing for those of Israel who have escaped. (NKJ) READ: ISAIAH 11:1 1 There shall come forth a Rod from the stem of Jesse, and a Branch shall grow out of his roots. (NKJ)

  20. QUESTIONS: ZECHARIAH 6:12-13 WHO IS THIS BRANCH? READ: JEREMIAH 23:5 5 Behold, the days are coming, says the LORD, That I will raise to David a Branch of righteousness. A King shall reign and prosper, and execute judgment and righteousness in the earth. (NKJ) READ: JEREMIAH 33:15 15 In those days and at that timeI will cause to grow up to David a Branch of righteousness; he shall execute judgment and righteousness in the earth. (NKJ)

READ: 1 PETER 2:4-5 4 Coming to Him as to a living stone, rejected indeed by men, but chosen by God and precious, 5 You also, as living stones, are being built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. (NKJ) READ: HEBREWS 8:1-2 1 This is the main point of the things we are saying: We have such a High Priest, who is seated at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens, 2 A Minister of the sanctuary and of the true tabernacle which the Lord erected, and not man. (NKJ)

READ: EPHESIANS 2:19-22 19 You are no longer strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints and membersof the household of God, 20 Having been built on the foundationof the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ Himself being the chief corner stone, 21 In whom the whole building, being joined together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord, 22 In whom you also are being built togetherfor a dwelling place of God in the Spirit. (NKJ)

  25. QUESTIONS: ZECHARIAH 6:12-13 WHAT GLORY SHALL HE BEAR? READ: JOHN 17:5 5 O Father, glorify Me together with Yourself, with the glory which I had with You before the world was. (NKJ) READ: JOHN 17:24 24 Father, I desire that they also whom You gave Me may be with Me where I am, that they may behold My glory which You have given Me; for You loved Me before the foundation of the world. READ: HEBREWS 2:9 9 We see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels, for the suffering of deathcrowned with glory and honor, that He, by the grace of God, might taste death for everyone. READ: MATTHEW 19:28 28 Jesus said to them, Assuredly I say to you, that in the regeneration, when the Son of Man sits on the throne of His glory, you who have followed Me will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. (NKJ) READ: MATTHEW 25:31 31 When the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the holy angels with Him, then He will sit on the throne of His glory. (NKJ) WHO IS THIS HIGH PRIEST?

READ: ACTS 2:29-30 29 Men and brethren, let me speak freely to you of the patriarch David, that he is both dead and buried, and his tomb is with us to this day. 30 Therefore, being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him that of the fruit of his body, according to the flesh, He would raise up the Christ to sit on his throne, (NKJ)

WHAT SHALL HE BRING TO THEM?

  30. QUESTIONS: ZECHARIAH 6:12-13 WHAT SHALL HE BRING TO THEM? READ: ISAIAH 9:6 6 Unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given; and the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. (NKJ) READ: ACTS 10:36 36 The word which God sent to the children of Israel, preaching peace through Jesus Christ- He is Lord of all-(NKJ) READ: EPHESIANS 1:10 10 In the dispensation of the fullness of the timesHe might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven and which are on earth-- in Him. (NKJ)

READ: EPHESIANS 2:13-17 13 But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought nearby the blood of Christ. 14 For He Himself is our peace, who has made both one, and has broken down the middle wall of separation, 15 Having abolished in His flesh the enmity, that is, the law of commandments contained in ordinances, so as to create in Himself one new man from the two, thus making peace, 16 And that He might reconcile them both to Godin one body through the cross, thereby putting to death the enmity. 17 And He came and preached peace to youwho were afar off and to those who were near. READ: EZRA 1:5 5 The heads of the fathers' houses of Judah and Benjamin, and the priests and the Levites, with all whose spirits God had moved, arose to go up and build the house of the LORD which is in Jerusalem. (NKJ) HOW WAS THIS TO BE FUNDED? READ: EZRA 6:8 8 Moreover I issue a decree as to what you shall do for the elders of these Jews, for the building of this house of God: Let the cost be paid at the king's expense from taxes on the region beyond the River; this is to be given immediately to these men, so that they are not hindered. (READ: EZRA 7:19-20)
