  1. Vertical Test Stand Update C.M. Ginsburg (Fermilab) For the VTS group: C.Sylvester, Y.Huang, R.Nehring, J.Ozelis, T.Peterson, V.Poloubotko, R.Rabehl, I.Rakhno, C.Reid, M.Wong 05.October.2006

  2. VTS Cryostat • Two bids received: Meyer Tool and PHPK • After technical & price bid evaluation, PHPK selected • Purchase order placed Sept. 20 • PHPK: • ASME code calculations done for pressure vessel • Minor changes to design requested – they await our approval • Not affecting schedule • Will receive instrumentation (liquid level sensors, thermometry, etc.) and J-T heat exchanger from us in the next few weeks • C.Sylvester and T.Peterson very useful visit to PHPK Sept.26 • Will deliver status in ~biweekly teleconferences • Cryostat top plate • Baseline design near final • Some top plate is needed for pressure vessel ASME code stamp, not necessarily one we will use for testing cavities • However, top plate for testing will also need ASME code stamp • Preferable to do both at once • Delivery by March 2007 C.M. Ginsburg ILC/SRF mtg

  3. More Vertical Test Stand Activities • Magnetic Shielding (room-temperature & 2K) • Detail designs in progress • Plan Request for Proposals to include some design work • Meet with J. Zweibohmer and Procurement within ~week • Radiation Shielding • Calculations for “final geometry” in progress • Shielding lid movement design in progress • Plan radiation shielding assessment review within ~month • Kamran Vaziri (ES&H) will be our point-of-contact for radiation safety and permissions • RF System • Response to RF Review committee Sept.11 • All procurements have been placed • 500W amplifier to be shipped October 5, when tests complete • RF personnel safety interlocks in progress, with Chuck Worel (AD/ES&H) C.M. Ginsburg ILC/SRF mtg

  4. Still More VTS Activities • 9-cell temperature map (not baseline VTS) • Aseet Mukherjee • Conceptual design completed • Few cheap diodes ordered for R&D • Wish to test parasitically in A0 3.9 GHz vertical test • MS Project file update for Ken Domann (and us) in progress C.M. Ginsburg ILC/SRF mtg

  5. Reminder: Project Scope • Single, bare 1.3 GHz 9-cell Tesla-style cavities • Cryo capacity ~125 W at 2 K • Measure Q vs. T (Tmin~1.5 K) • Measure Q vs. Eacc at 2 K • 250 W (CW) max RF power required (Q>5x109, Eacc<35 MV/m) • Maintain “Controlled Area” status in IB1 • < 5 mrem/hr immediately outside the shielding • <0.25 mrem/hr in normal working areas • Foreseen upgrades: • Thermal mapping system, variable input coupler, 2nd cavity test capability C.M. Ginsburg ILC/SRF mtg
