Fashion Industry Career Project By: Miranda Powell
Career? • The career I have chosen is Educator/Trainer. This job requires many responsibilities. Once fashion designers have gained enough experience, they can become teachers in either secondary or postsecondary settings. Teachers must, above all else, be able to communicate effectively to students. Fashion design teachers should be able to demonstrate sewing skills, understand fashion trends and understand patterns for the benefit of their students.
Work Conditions • Though designers can become teachers, they have to have a certain amount of education to be able to teach. A fashion design teacher must be licensed in order to teach at a public high school. Also, the design teacher must have a master's degree in order to teach at the university level.
Skills • In order to teach, fashion design teachers must have a master's degree; Master of Arts or a Master of Fine Arts. As teachers, they demonstrate strong verbal skills and understand the needs of students from all backgrounds.
Future Outlook • Designers have been around for years. Many of them go on to go to school to teach others about fashion, these are what we call our fashion educator/trainer. They teach students about the fashion industry, and about fashion itself. The fashion industry & fashion itself is growing everyday, very fast. Fashion educators have been around for a while, & I believe they will be for a while longer.
Salary • The average salary for fashion design teacher jobs is $45,000. Average fashion design teacher salaries can vary due to company, location, industry, experience and benefits.
