  1. We Share… ….Identity, Mission, Message and Beliefs

  2. “We Share…” What prompted its creation? • A recurring question: “who are we?” • Important pending matters—all needing to be grounded in common identity / values • A mission imperative • A prophetic longing • The need for unity / alignment

  3. The Process • Two years of prayer, study, dialogue • Church leaders • Expanded World Church Leadership Council • Standing High Council • Field officers / others • Voice of the Spirit and the voices of the church

  4. The dual meaning of “we share” • We share: what we have in common with one another in Community of Christ • We share: our witness / generosity

  5. “We Share Identity, Mission, Message and Beliefs” Let’s take a look….

  6. We share a vision for Creation • Wolves and lambs (Isa 11) • Broken down walls (Eph 2) • The cross and the church seal

  7. We share a name “Community of Christ…is your identity and calling” (D&C 163)

  8. We share the peace of Jesus Christ “And whoso shall publish peace, yea, tidings of great joy, how beautiful upon the mountains shall they be” (1 Nephi)

  9. We share a mission We proclaim Jesus Christ and promote communities of joy, hope, love, and Peace. Proclaiming Jesus Christ Promoting community

  10. We share a sacred story “Do not fail to listen attentively to the telling of the sacred story, for the story of scripture and faith empowers and illuminates” (D&C 161) Church history principles

  11. We share sacraments “Look especially to the sacraments to enrich the spiritual life of the body” (D&C 158)

  12. WE SHARE ENDURING PRINCIPLES What do we mean by “enduring principles” --it’s not just what we “believe” --it’s in our DNA as a movement --it’s in the core of the movement’s character, while still being what we’re called to more fully become

  13. Enduring Principles: The Foundation: God, Christ, Holy Spirit

  14. Enduring Principles: • Grace and Generosity • Sacredness of Creation • Continuing Revelation • Worth of all Persons • All are Called • Responsible Choices • Pursuit of Peace (Shalom) • Unity in Diversity • Blessings of Community

  15. How do you know when these principles are truly embraced? (exercise in small groups)

  16. We share the Temple as life-giving symbol “it shall be a place in which the essential meaning of the Restoration as healing and redeeming agent is given new life and understanding, inspired the life and witness of the Redeemer of the world” (D&C 156)

  17. We share basic beliefs God The Church Peace Jesus Christ Revelation Resurrection The Holy Spirit Scripture Judgment Creation Sacraments End Time Humanity Discipleship Sin Ministry Salvation Reign of God

  18. A major question… If we truly embrace what we’ve just talked about, how does it shape: our relationships (God, planet, others)? our time? our congregational life? our spending? our praying? our priorities?

  19. “We Share” and discerning congregational mission • Discernment for mission is key • According to gifts is critical • “We Share”: a foundational piece in the discernment process
