A Little About Me…… • In addition to working as an adjunct professor for Kaplan University, I am also an assistant principal at an elementary school in the suburbs of Atlanta, Georgia. • I have taught ED500, ED552, ED512, LT504 and ED572 for Kaplan University. • I am a mother of two beautiful daughters, Jordan and Sidney, who are 12 years old and 9 years old. • I am also a proud owner of 6 precious dogs who are a big part of our family (4 yorkies and 2 white german shepherds).  • I aim to be thorough, organized, and methodical in how I teach courses for Kaplan.

  7. What can you expect from me? • A course calendar to keep up with assignment due dates and when seminars are held • Thorough explanations of upcoming assignments. • Prompt responses to any questions by email or phone (emailing me is always better due to my schedule). • Support and guidance at all times.

  8. What do I expect from you? • Your best effort on all assignments. • Submission of all assignments ON TIME. • Keep me informed of any problems you are having understanding assignments or meeting deadlines.

  9. Four Major Assignments in This Course • Discussion Boards (in units 1-8, 10) worth 240 points • MyEducationLab (in units 2, 3, & 5 – units 4 & 6 not graded) worth 90 points • Wiki (in units 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, & 8) worth 120 points • Implication Paper (due in unit 7) worth 140 points • IRB Practice Application (due in unit 8) worth 80 points • Final Action Research Plan (ARP) (due in unit 9) worth 330 points

  10. Seminars for This Course • Seminars will only be held in the following units for this course: • Unit 1 • Unit 2 – cancelled (HOLIDAY) • Unit 3 • Unit 4 • Unit 6 • Unit 9 • Each will be held on Monday evenings from 7:00pm to 8:00pm (Eastern Time Zone).

  11. UNITS 1 & 2 Things to do

For Unit 1…… Make sure you have completed the following before moving onto Unit 2 items: • Read over the Course Syllabus thoroughly. • Read over all Announcements posted under Course Home. • Familiarize yourself with Major Course Assignments. • Read over Introduction & Key Concepts for Unit 1. • Complete unit readings • Chapters 1 & 20 in textbook. • Article “The Painter” located in Readings of Unit 1 • Complete the Discussion Board. • Introduction Discussion Board • Regular Discussion Board • Set-up your Wiki. • Set-up your MyEducationLab. • Attend seminar.

  13. Instructions for Creating Wiki Page

  14. 1. Click on "Learning Space".

  15. 2. Click on "ARP Wiki" in 'Content' box.

  16. 3. Click on "Add New Page".

  17. 4. Type name in black line of box that appears and click "Continue".

  18. 5. Your Wiki Page will open up. It looks like a Word-type document. This is where your assignments in units 2-8 will be typed.

  19. 6. After typing in each assignment, you will scroll to the bottom and click "Save & Exit".

  20. Instructions for Adding to Wiki Page Each Week

  21. 1. Click on "Learning Space."

  22. 2. Click on "ARP Wiki".

  23. 3. On the right in the black, you will see the names of your classmates who have already created their Wiki Page. Click on your name.

  24. 4. Click on "Edit".

  25. 5. Type the unit # and your wiki assignment for the week.

  26. 6. Scroll down to the bottom and click on "Save & Exit".

  27. Joining the Class in MyEducationLab

  28. 1. Go to www.myeducationlab.com and click on your way of logging in.

  29. 2. Click on the type of textbook we are are searching for "Educational Research".

  30. 3. Scroll down to our textbook and click on "log in".

  31. MyEducationLab • If you have not purchased this term’s usage you will need to do that. • When you get in, you will see something that says “Join A Class” – Click on this! • Put in our class ID which is cm948070 This will link you up with our class so that I can grade your lab assignments.

  32. For Unit 2…….. Start on the following for Unit 2 which begins tomorrow: • Read over the Introduction & Key Concepts for Unit 2. • Complete unit readings. • Chapter 2 in textbook • Complete Chapter 2 activities in MyEducationLab: • Writing Research Hypotheses • Reviewing Research Proposal A • Reviewing Research Proposal B • Identifying Hypotheses • Developing a Hypothesis • Complete discussion board. • Complete Wiki assignment. • Attend seminar.
