  5. # 2 Effectiveness Definition: Faculty and staff perform their functions effectively, achieving targeted results. Metric: Number of other Tier 1 Metrics that are in "Green" status.

  6. # 3 Scholarly Success Definition: Faculty make contributions to their fields of study by advancing and / or applying knowledge. Metric: Number of publications or juried works from annual activity report DIVIDED BY faculty research FTE* from the previous year. * Full Time Equivalent

  9. #14 Engaged Learning Definition: Students are discussing and applying their studies outside the classroom, shifting the paradigm of standard classroom interaction. Community-based learning and research experiences conducted outside the classroom are connected to course content through reflection and discussion. Metric: Number of student hours spent on this activity. Consider adding prevalence of participating in a community-based project as part of a regular course within 1st-year students and seniors as an initial measure because it is collected in the National Survey of Student Engagement. Hours of service per student within an academic semester course: as reported in the Center for Community Engagement & Learning student evaluation.

  10. # 15 Program Quality Definition: Programs achieve learning outcomes consistent with professional society standards using national or regional accreditation where appropriate. Metric: Percent of departments meeting or exceeding standards on their scheduled yearly review, whether that is the national/regional accreditation or an interim outcomes assessment.

  13. #4 Student Success Definition: Students master curricula studied. Metric: Number of annual awards (e.g. degrees, certificates, etc) DIVIDED BY FTES. Number of annual awards in each academic program and degree/certificate category; Number of associate, baccalaureate, and masters degrees, and certificates.

  14. #5 Engaged Service Success Definition: Faculty, Staff, and Students engage in service in the community in a way that enhances both their experience and the community's well being. Metric: Hours of engaged Service per student FTE. Hours of engaged service per faculty member. Hours of engaged service per staff member.

  15. #16 Enrollment & Retention Definition: Increase in annual number of students (FTE) taking courses, training, professional development, or continuing education at UAA. Students complete the course of study that they begin. Metric: For each semester, the trend in absolute number of opening AND closing FTES by level. Display metric as a set of graphs, comparing trend over time, one graph per level. Official opening number of FTES enrolled in classes at official opening as defined by UA System (3rd week). Official closing number of FTES: Number of FTES enrolled in classes at the end of the semester.

  16. #17 Learning Readiness Definition: Students are enrolled in courses of study consistent with their goals, abilities, and circumstances. Metric: Trend in course completion rate. Successfully complete means receiving a grade of A, B, C, P, or in some cases, D. Show percent in a graph as trend of 3 years.

  17. #18 State & Student Professional Needs Definition: UAA offers courses of study that meet both student and state needs. Students achieve their academic goals and become employed in jobs in highest demand. Metric: Number of alumni placed into relevant job-types from the state high-demand job list DIVIDED BY number of relevant job openings materialized from the high-demand job list.

  20. #6 Alaska Reputation Definition: Community is willing to recommend UAA to prospective students (traditional AND non-traditional). Or, if that is cost prohibitive: prospective students rate UAA highly on criteria they will use to decide where to attend school. Metric: Number of favorable responses on key questions divided by total number of respondees.

  21. #7 Financial Health Definition: Sufficient and sustainable revenues are available to advance goals and cover projected expenses. Metric: (next year's projected cumulative unrestricted revenue divided by this year's projected cumulative unrestricted revenue) DIVIDED BY (next year's projected cumulative unrestricted expense divided by this year's cumulative YTD unrestricted expense)

  22. #8 Effective Technology Definition: UAA implements technology that improves productivity and competitiveness. Metric: Current year IT $ going to designated productivity-competitiveness oriented projects DIVIDED BY total current year non-maintenance IT project $.

  23. #9 Effective Communication Definition: Major UAA stakeholders know of institution's accomplishments and needs. Metric: Stakeholder opinion survey response (non-indexed, display as a graph with different segments separate). Includes internal and external stakeholders.

  24. #10 Non-State Revenue Definition: Reduced reliance on state appropriations through diversification of revenue sources. Metric: Total unrestricted revenue excluding state appropriations/total unrestricted revenue.

  25. #11 Allocated Time & Resources Definition: Resources ($$ and headcount) are allocated to top priorities of UAA as articulated by the Cabinet. Metric: TBD, but something like: total $$ allocated to designated top priorities vs. total $$ allocated to other projects.

  32. #19 Continuous Learning / Pursuit of Excellence Definition: Organization adheres to process of continuous improvement: 1) They have a plan; 2) They are using/executing it; 3) They are experiencing improvement in the specified areas; and, 4) They are conducting ongoing program reviews. Metric: Number of milestones in all plans that are met in the quarter DIVIDED BY number of milestones in all plans that are due in the quarter.

  33. #20 Access Definition: Southcentral Alaskan residents that can benefit from higher education have the opportunity to do so. Metric: UAA's enrollment/adult population compared to US enrollment/US population.
