  1. “The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others” Mohandas K. Gandhi

  2. Mission Statement To educate, train, assist and inspire high school students who are interested in helping others.

  3. Vision Teach2Serve will build a nationwide community of select high school students who want to commit themselves to social change throughout the United States and the rest of the world. Our students will graduate from high school and enter college with a unique and proven set of leadership and social entrepreneurship skills. Teach2Serve schools will award participating students a Public Service Certificate based on a rigorous curriculum of experiential learning. This certificate allows colleges to identify those students with a proven commitment to public service during the application process.

  4. We Teach Individuals to Help Others We believe that dedication to service starts from the heart, but is ultimately successful through education and training. Training students in social entrepreneurship and helping them discover that they can make an explicit difference in the world, whether locally, nationally or internationally, will create a chain reaction by helping those in need. We will give our students the tools, but they will choose their own fields of interests: education, the environment, healthcare, women’s rights, human rights, energy, poverty, food and water, etc. In the course of helping others, students will also be helping themselves. By participating in this program, students will not only gain valuable leadership skills, but also self-esteem and the conviction that they can make a difference. Teach2Serve is for any student who has a passion to change the world and a commitment to public service.

  5. Partner Schools Teach2Serve will build a network of partner schools across the United States that wish to be at the forefront of public service education for high school students. Students at partner schools are selected in the spring of their 9th grade year and enter the 3 year program in 10th grade. They are mentored by their school’s internal Teach2Serve program director. There is no strict model to determine the type of school that is right for the Teach2Serve curriculum. We seek partner schools that foster a culture of service and that encourage their students to be passionate about helping others. While we are initially partnering with private schools, our goal is to eventually reach out to public schools throughout the country.

  9. Pilot Program: 2010 – 2011 Two schools have entered the Teach2Serve pilot program: The Solebury School, a 7 – 12 co-ed independent school in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. The Laurel School, a K–12 independent school for girls in Cleveland, Ohio. As founding partners, educators at both schools will play an integral role in baseline curriculum development and will make vital contributions to the Teach2Serve program.

  10. The Solebury School Since its founding in 1925, the Solebury School has prided itself in its mission to provide a challenging and relevant college preparatory curriculum that encourages students to explore and develop their individual skills and talents in an environment of mutual respect between students and teachers. Solebury School is guided by a profound respect for the individual, yet recognizes the need to balance individual freedom with responsibility to the community. Students are valued for the talents and traits they bring to the school and are encouraged to explore their passions and to better their community through their performance.

  11. The Laurel School The Laurel School’s legacy as an outstanding girls’ school is founded on academic excellence, respect and shared values and tradition.  Laurel’s mission – to inspire each girl to fulfill her promise and to better the world – reminds every student that she is expected to take an active role in serving the community outside the school. Laurel has a unique program called “Passport” which is the school’s Global Education Initiative. This program teaches students about other parts of the world and, when appropriate, emphasizes the role of service in the global environment.

  12. College Sourcing Teach2Serve will work closely with the college placement officers of its partner schools to identify appropriate colleges for each of our students who want to continue their studies in fields related to public service. Our website will feature a catalog describing these colleges and their programs. We believe that it is important for colleges to value our program in their admissions process and we are working hard to ensure that colleges recognize Teach2Serve’s Public Service Certificate and curriculum. Teach2Serve is also building relationships with AmeriCorps, VISTA and a variety of NGOs for students who may want to take a “gap” year before attending college.

  13. www.teach2serve.org Teach2Serve is currently creating a web-based community where students and teachers from our partner schools can share ideas and utilize our resources to reach their public service goals. • Multimedia Library • News and Events • Teach2Serve Online Meetings • Links to Appropriate NGO Websites and Online Conferences • Social Networking Between Partner Schools • College Sourcing • Alumni Networking Teach2Serve is building across multiple platforms to create an engaging and encompassing web presence.

  14. Measuring Results Teach2Serve will produce measurable results in key areas: • Number of partner schools and participating students. • The impact of student public service projects on targeted constituencies. • College placement into public service programs. Our best long term metrics of success will be through the discipline of following our alumni and their achievements through college and beyond. We are confident by the early interest from partner schools that Teach2Serve’s model of experiential learning in public service and social entrepreneurship for high school students will be very successful and is worthy of support.

  15. Leadership Alan Sheriff Executive Director Teach2Serve was founded by Alan Sheriff, Co-CEO and founder of Solebury Capital Group LLC.
