Chris Halperin Memorial Clinic In September 2001, Chris, along with two fellow Bastyr University naturopathic medical students Leigh Kochan and Kim Tippens, traveled to a Majiwa village in Nyanza Province, Kenya in order to open an integrative healthcare clinic. Chris Halperin with patient Clinic founded in 2005 by Bastyr Students in Chris’s honor – run through non profit agency - Village Volunteers

SOMA Democratic Republic of Congo Lubumbashi, Democratic Republic of Congo; Operating out of the Lubumbashi Medical Clinic, Mercy and Care International (MCI) is the “brainchild” of U.S. trained physician Dr. YsuUmbalo.  The clinic works to bring services and care to some of the poorest citizens of this devastated Western African country.  HBI helps to secure equipment and supplies for the clinic and provides technical consulting for the operations of the NGO. Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine SRI LANKA TSUNAMI RELIEF 2005 Dr. Eric Udell Sri Lanka 2005 Eric Udell, SCNM alumnus and faculty member, is one of two Naturopathic physicians sent to Sri Lanka to provide medical care to survivors of the tragic South Asian tsunami through the international organization “Homeopaths Without Borders”.

Who are the members? • Volunteer responders to the crisis in Haiti met in Portland, OR. in April 2010 . • They proposed establishment of this council to gather the expertise of the community to respond to the disaster in Haiti. • Since this area is fairly new to our profession – it was important for this group to respond with caution, preparedness and with the larger picture of this profession in mind. • These volunteer leaders have brought the idea to you today:

NATUROPATHIC GLOBAL HEALTH COUNCIL The vision of the Naturopathic Global Health Council (NGHC) is to work collaboratively to ensure that all those striving for improvement and equity in global health, specifically in naturopathic global health, have the information and resources they need to succeed, have a forum to share information, and can prepare adequately to provide care in a responsible and ethical manner.

Addressing Emerging Global Health Issues in Naturopathic Medicine It is time for new forms of collaboration at the national and international level which seek to engage a wide range of participants in meaningful dialogue based on common values in order to: • Build a network of educational and medical resources and opportunities • Create partnerships • Facilitate communication • Generate mechanisms for needs assessment and data gathering • Ensure responsibility and ethical practices • Reach out to the larger community doing this work • And??? …….
