  1. How Does Thyroid Affect Infertility? sunflowerwomenshospital.wordpress.com/2020/02/15/how-does-thyroid-affect-infertility/ Sunflower Women's Hospital February 15, 2020 The thyroid gland produces a hormone that helps in fetal development. The child is unable to produce his thyroid hormone and depends on his mother. In addition, hormones are responsible for metabolism in the mother’s body. The production of these hormones in high amounts is called hyperthyroidism and insufficient production is called hypothyroidism. Both conditions can affect your pregnancy. Leads to miscarriage Women with low thyroid hormone levels face miscarriage or premature labor. Hypothyroidism makes it difficult for your progesterone levels and menstrual cycle. It does not allow the egg to attach to the uterus and thus, even if engaged in it, the mother is unable to provide adequate thyroid hormone to the fetus, resulting in a decline in pregnancy. Causes Anovulation Anovulation can be an irregular menstrual cycle or no period, irregular hormone levels cause anovulation. Hyperthyroidism 1/2
