Utility of Incorporating Assessments into Coaching Engagements • Learn about important attributes prior to initial interviews and conversations. • Understand the client’s interpersonal style, and tailor the interview appropriately. • Quickly identify potentially derailing personality characteristics. • Provide an objective way to provide feedback about strengths and weaknesses. • Gain additional insight beyond traditional interview techniques.

  3. AFL takes a strategic approach around effectiveness of senior coaches. AFL team uses Hogan’s for coaches and players. Case Study - AFL

  4. AFL/STRIDE report around coaching. 5 competencies identified – technical skills, personal qualities, communication, management and leadership. Identifies need for personality profiling to test for relationships with people, personal character and personal characteristics working with players and coaching staff. AFL Research

  8. 60% of players have the “moving away” syndrome…emotionally withdrawing when under stress, “tuning out” as a coping mechanism. How should the coaches communicate when they have “shut down”?   9. 6 players have substantial anxiety issues…low moods/dissatisfaction with life’s achievements. The coaches had a mixed personality style…some had IQ/EQ and some had just the IQ (technical skills). Analysis of Hogan Data

  10. We identified 6 young players who have a natural leadership profile…should we run a leadership program for them? 38% scored low on “Not Autonomous”…they don’t really care what other people think about them. Might they be difficult to coach? Analysis of Hogan Data

  11. Coaching sessions for the coaches and the assistant coaches around their Hogan profiles. These coaching sessions to include analysis of individual players and how best to coach them. Individual players to have coaching sessions. Next Steps

  12. Review the selection and composition of the player leadership group. Use Hogan profiling in the annual draft of young players. Develop Hogan capability to improve the game plan. Start using the language of IQ/EQ, and working “in” and “on” the business. Decisions Made
