  1. Workshop Chamonix XV – 27 January 2006 Access System during the LHC Injection tests P. Ninin, S. Grau - TS/CSE Authors: P, Ninin, S. Grau & LHC access team EDMS: 697682

  2. Agenda • Introduction • Motivation • Requirements • Interlock chains • CCC • Situation after the tests • Planning • Conclusions Authors: P, Ninin, S. Grau & LHC access team EDMS: 697682

  3. Motivation • Protect personnel against radiation hazard during the tests • Access to underground areas around Points 8 and 7 (and the arc in between) must be fully operational during the test • Access doors must be interlocked to disable beam in a failsafe way if safety conditions  are violated. • Test the access control and safety system • Procedure: • patrol, • nominal operation, • incident management • Access Equipment • Interlock chains • Control system Authors: P, Ninin, S. Grau & LHC access team EDMS: 697682

  4. Access requirements • Temporary interlocked gate in Sector 7-6: • To allow safe continued access to 6-7 the  gate should be placed at 800 m from IP7(RP study).   • Dead zone or confined space • The machine access point at Point 7 (PM76) shall be operational.  • The machine access point at Point 8 (PM85) shall be operational.  • The access point between the experimental service cavern and the LHCb experiment shall be operational and the shield wall in place (PZ85) • Temporary interlocked gate in Sector 8-1 Authors: P, Ninin, S. Grau & LHC access team EDMS: 697682

  5. Access system • Injection Test zones limited to points LHC 7 & 8 • Deployment • Access safety system at points 7 & 8 • Access control system at points 7 & 8 • CCC control infrastructure • Redundant cable loop • Patrol Authors: P, Ninin, S. Grau & LHC access team EDMS: 697682

  6. Installation • Underground access system equipment in sectors 7 / 8 shall be installed before the hardware commissioning. • Pits head access equipment could be installed during cool down, expected lower traffic. • During the PM installation the PZ will remain operational. • Estimation of 500 people that needs the new access card Authors: P, Ninin, S. Grau & LHC access team EDMS: 697682

  7. CCC Authors: P, Ninin, S. Grau & LHC access team EDMS: 697682

  8. Interlock Chains G. Roy Authors: P, Ninin, S. Grau & LHC access team EDMS: 697682

  9. Interfaces BIC Access Safety Central Controller SPS Access Access safety network Access safety network TED87765 18 KV Access Safety LHC8 Controller Access Safety LHC7 Controller MBIAH 8783M BIW MSIB 8813M BIW Authors: P, Ninin, S. Grau & LHC access team EDMS: 697682

  10. Authorisation • Authorisation during the tests will be given by the DSO or the GLIMOS, final decision by OP • Enrolment campaign and new identifier distribution • New identifier included in the dosimeter Biometry Enrolment Personal Dosimeter with identifier Authors: P, Ninin, S. Grau & LHC access team EDMS: 697682

  11. Access Procedure • Before • If necessary access control with restricted list • Patrol • During (17 days) • Access closed and interlocked • If access necessary : LHC access mode RESTRICTED • After • Supervised Radiation Area • Access doors NOT required to define these limits. • Personal Dosimeter required • New LHC access system will be operational in 7 & 8 Authors: P, Ninin, S. Grau & LHC access team EDMS: 697682

  12. Planning Underground installation ready Surface installation ready Authors: P, Ninin, S. Grau & LHC access team EDMS: 697682

  13. Coordination – S.Grau • Follow-up tasks and linkmen • LACS installation and commissioning -> L. Scibile, F.Bonthond • LASS development -> T. Ladzinski • LASS installation and commissioning -> T. Ladzinski • Cabling -> J. F. Juget • Equipment Integration -> S. Di Luca • Interface with BIC and SPS access safety system -> T. Ladzinski • Redundant cable loop installation and commissioning -> M. Munoz • LACS, LASS, Cable Loop and Global Access tests -> L. Scibile, T. Ladzinski • Testing procedures and team definition -> L. Scibile, T. Ladzinski • Patrol and operational procedures definition -> P. Ninin • Access cards/dosimeters fabrication, enrolment (500 p) -> L. Scibile, R. Nunes • Training to CCC operators -> P. Ninin • INB documentation -> E.M. Poggioli • Document objectives, requirements, linkmen, milestones, operational modes acess vs. test modes for the Injection Tests from access point of view -> S.Grau Authors: P, Ninin, S. Grau & LHC access team EDMS: 697682

  14. Conclusions • Goals • Ensure personnel safety (radiation hazards) during the tests • Test the access system itself • More particularly the interlocks and supervision part • Installation of access system equipment and necessary service is scheduled and organised to achieve this goal. • 20 % of the final LHC access system • Little specific • Operational procedure to be prepared and tested • Access system for LHC Injection Test will be coordinated by S.Grau.
