Example Question: • From where, according to Bulfinch, might the symbol of the “Round Table” have originated from? • Answer: • Arthur, might literally mean “The Great Bear”; a constellation of the same name near the pole is spherical in shape and may therefore represent the round table.
Homework (for Friday) • Read Bulfinch’s Medieval Mythology page 25-39, the first chapter on Arthur • This includes “Merlin,” Guenever,” “King Arthur Slays the Giant of St. Michael’s Mount,” and “King Arthur Gets a Sword from the Lady of the Lake” • For each of these sections, take notes that summarize key details and write down any questions you may have • Consider the following: What do these characters or events show us about the character of Arthur? How might these sections/stories fit into the Hero’s Journey? • Notes/Questions will be collected on Friday for a grade!
