Newton and Novena to be health and transport gateway The Newton and Novena areas in Singapore are highly desirable residential areas with good connectivity, a peaceful environment, and proximity to amenities and schools. Given the popularity and proximity to convenient amenities within and around Newton and Novena, most of the residents tend to be working professionals. Recently, a Master Plan master class of the Newton & Novena areas was launched that showcased noteworthy projects. These projects reveal that these areas will soon become a health hub and transport gateway. Let’s check out how. Newton and Novena - A Transport Gateway The Newton MRT Interchange Station is one of the busiest underground railway stations in Singapore. It is an underground Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) interchange station on the North- South (NSL) and Downtown (DTL) lines. It is also a prominent public transport hub in the popular Newton area. Currently, it is operated by SMRT Trains Ltd (SMRT Corporation), which recently appointed new SMRT CEO, on the North-South line and SBS Transit DTL on the Downtown line. Located along Thomson Road in Novena, Novena MRT station is an underground Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) station on the North-South Line. There is a subway that connects Newton MRT to Novena MRT. Operated by SMRT, the Newton MRT Station to Novena MRT Station subway service helps commuters reach their destination MRT station in just 2 minutes. Newton and Novena – A Health Hub In Novena, most of the commercial activity is anchored by established shopping centres and office developments. Many prominent hospitals and healthcare institutions such as Tan Tock Seng Hospital and Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital have opened in the Novena area. The largest urban transformation taking place in the Novena area is the 17ha HealthCity Novena. The Health City will be an integrated community of healthcare, medical education, and translational research centre. Health City Novena is expected to be completed by 2030 and will be completed in two phases. The three noteworthy projects in the Newton and Novena enclave are: •Pullman Residences Newton, a 340-unit luxury branded residence by EL Development •Kopar at Newton, an upmarket 378-unit residential development by CEL Development •The boutique 25-unit Enchante by Victory Land The Orchard Road shopping belt will be transformed in the future as well where residents of Newton and Novena can come and enjoy shopping. The Orchard Road area will be changed into a lifestyle destination rather than just a shopping street. Conclusion Looking ahead, a major transformation of the Newton and Novena areas is already underway. Development plans for new transportation networks and ongoing infrastructure projects in these areas will support residential and commercial demands.
