    2. What is it? A state mandated report for each school and school district in Connecticut containing information on: measures of student needs - factors which may place a student at risk educationally school resources - those which have been purchased and are available for use in a school school performance - school programs and activities which translate resources into outcomes student performance - the results of the instructional process.

    3. What’s the Point? Improve schools through “informed” decision making If the info is put on paper, we can analyze everything that is happening in a school and district Accountability system Everyone has access to these; would you want a bad profile? Stimulate school improvement Easier to see where troubles lay

    4. How are Profiles Created? Quantitative data provided by local education agencies in the fall of the report year Test data provided by testing agencies Population and income information comes from U.S. census or CT Department of Economic and Community Development

    5. Let’s Look at a Couple! Now that we know what Strategic School Profiles are, why we use them, and a little about how they are created, lets glance at several! **Note ~ there are 4 choices : Reg. Ed. by district Reg. Ed. by schools Special Ed. by district Adult Ed. by district Avon School District Hartford School District Avon High School Weaver High School Also, profiles are available for magnet and charter schools, regional ed service centers and “other” schools such as Norwich Free Academy…

    6. What about the other 49 states? Pennsylvania – School Report Cards Massachusetts – Basic outline of schools broken up by district and then by school Iowa – provides specific information on student achievement Delaware – profiles are simply an outline of missions and goals Many other states have profiles as well, just do a Google search!

Alternatives… Great Schools -“The Parent’s Guide to K-12 Success”; allows parents to research and compare schools, leave feedback and read comments from other parents Yahoo – provides basic school profiles on selected districts eSchoolProfile – provides comparisons of schools for parents who are moving to a new district
