  1. Using Technology To Increase Student Involvement  By Group 14: david Bushman, Joey Cruz, Benjamin LeE, AND HalletteLuedtke

  2. Why Technology? • Students are in an active role rather than a passive role when technology is integrated in the classroom • Students are actively making choices about how to generate, obtain, manipulate, or display information • When students use technology for support, they are in the position of defining their goals, making design decisions, and evaluating their progress

  3. Why Technology?(continued) • The teacher is no longer the center of attention as the dispenser of information, but rather plays the role of facilitator, setting project goals and providing guidelines and resources, moving from student to student or group to group, providing suggestions and support for student activity • Student satisfaction with the immediate feedback provided by the computer and the sense of accomplishment and power gained by working with technology

  4. Collaborating with Peers • One major advantage of technology use in classrooms is an increased inclination among students to work cooperatively and provide peer tutoring • Public display and greater legibility of student work creates an invitation to comment • Some software applications are specifically designed to allow students to collaborate on substantive content

  5. Pros of using Technology in the classroom • Provides a forum of drill and practice for the student • Allows students to visualize abstract concepts or models • Tutorial programs and instructional games can make learning material more interesting for students • Access to very large amounts of information • A more positive social climate is established

  6. Cons of using technology in the classroom • Learning with technology requires learning the basics of technology tools • Can be expensive • Some teachers or students may not be using technology in the classroom effectively • There is a lot of false information that can be accessed using technology • Can be distracting

  7. Examples of technology use in classrooms • Smart boards • Laptops/Desktops • Projectors • D2L Arizona • Blackboard Eller • Catmail • Learning Software (ex. iLrn, Wiley Plus, Aleks)
