  2. What are they? • The words in English sentences are connected to one another in a variety of ways. One common method of connecting words is by using prepositions

  3. Some are one syllable • Location : at, by, in, on, near • Direction : to, from, down, off, through, out • Association: of, for, with, like • Some are two-syllable • About, against, above, before, except, under • Some are compound • According to, prior to, instead of, in front of

  4. Preposition phrase • A prepositional phrase starts with the preposition and ends with a noun or pronoun. • Examples – around the town, by the park, outside the pool • The word that ends a prep. Phrase is called the object of the preposition

  5. Object of preposition • The box fell behind the refrigerator. preposition

  6. Practice • 1. After Tuesday, we will have a long vacation. • 2. Before the party, you should clean between the cushion on the couch. • 3. Jonny went into the hall to find his coat. • 4. Everyone, except Bob, is going to the dance.
